The PortableApps platform has been a great asset to my development environment. I have it installed on a USB 3.0 Solid State Flash Drive and USB 3.0 Toshiba Hard Drive.
When using the PortableApps platform on my hard drive, it periodically disconnects and causes all open applications to hang forcing a reboot. Is there some setting or anomaly in the PortableApps platform or a Windows OS setting to keep the PortableApps platform from disconnecting?
I've only had this problem with my hard drive and NOT from my solid state drive. I prefer the hard drive because it has 1TB versus 128GB.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That's nothing in our control. That's the drive disconnecting at the hardware and OS level. Most running apps will crash in that scenario.
If you don't have it set to be very power-friendly and spin down quickly, you should look into whether the issue is with the USB port, the USB hub it is connected to, or the USB drive itself and return/exchange/replace the affected component. This is not normal or acceptable behavior.

Thank you for the quick response. Where are the Windows Settings for USB hard drive settings? Would it be the autoplay settings?

The only setting that would make it spin down would be in the power options.
It sounds like a hardware problem, though. Windows is decent about letting an external drive spin down and back up without affecting apps using the drive.

Modern Hard Drives utilise a standard set of diagnostic measures collectively known as SMART.
There is an application already in the PortableApps Platform called CrystalDiskInfo, which can read and display those measures.

See if that highlights any issues with the drive.
Might indicate a hardware issue, which would mean backing it up and replacing at the earliest opportunity.
If at first you do not succeed, use more sticky tape.
