Firefox 29 and Gmx.com file storage problem

When using Firefox 29 portable I find that it is no longer possible to upload files to Gmx.com online file storage, nor to access Gmx.com file storage to download files from there, although Gmx.com webmail works normally. Online file storage tries to start, but does not complete the operation.

It has been possible with Firefox portable version 28 and earlier Firefox portable versions - and it works again when returning to use Firefox 28 portable again now, so this is clearly a problem specific to Firefox 29 portable.

Mozilla support says it is not its problem to sort out a Firefox portable problem, so here I am here now trying to find a solution.

A suggestion to use Interent Explorer or other browser instead is not an option, as I want to use Firefox - and incidentally not to move away from Windows XP.

Who has the answer to this problem? I have so far only seen one other user posting this problem - on the Moizilla suport site, but suggestions there did not solve that user's problem, which is the same as mine.

Can you please test the issue

Can you please test the issue on a full, local installation of Firefox 29 (not FF Portable)?

I can see why Mozilla would send you here, but if the issue also occurs on a local install of Firefox 29 then unfortunately there is nothing we can do to help.

Steps

First, try re-enabling the disk cache to see if that effects it. It's disabled by default in Firefox Portable because Firefox will run slower with it on on many flash drives. But, we've found some bugs in Firefox's extension handling and other areas when it is disabled over the years. It's possible Firefox 29 introduced a new bug.

Next, check to see if it works on a locally installed copy of Firefox. This will determine if it is something specific to the portable version. The portable version contains a completely unaltered copy of Firefox within, but utilizes the -profile switch to redirect the profile and alters some settings (like cache set to 0). So this will also determine if there is a new bug in Firefox's code relating to use of the switch.

It's also possible you have an incompatible extension that worked properly in Firefox 28 but does not under Firefox 29. Disable ALL your extensions and plugins and see if it works. If it does, enable them one at a time to determine which is broken. You should also test a fresh install of Firefox Portable 29 to ensure it's not a bad setting somewhere in your configuration.

If it doesn't work in Firefox 29 local, it's a bug in Firefox or the website and you'll need to contact that site or Mozilla. If it works only when the cache is on, same thing. If it works locally but not portably, even with the cache on and all extensions disabled, then something else is afoot.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Firefox 29 and Gmx.com file storage

The idea with re-enabling disk cache management did not work. I then removed all Firefox versions, including Firefox 29 portable from my hard drive where I have been using them to a USB stick and deleted the Firefox directory on the hard drive, installed a fresh Firefox 29 (non portable version) on the hard drive. That did not solve the problem, so I disabled all extensions and add-ins in the newly installed Firefox 29 on the hard drive, restarted Firefox 29 (non portable) again and the problem was still there, also when changing disk cach management there too. Finally, I tried reducing security settings in the Java control panel from maximum, then to high, finally to medium and that did not help either.

It therefore appears to me that this must be an issue of Firefox 29 in general, if it cannot be solved on a fresh non-portable Firefox 29 on the hard drive. I am surprised therefore that Mozilla wanted to pass the problem to portableapps.com, especially as another user had reported th issue to them on, presumably a non-portable Firefox 29.

Therefore it is indeed an issue to be dealt with by Mozilla and/or Gmx.com as provider of the webmail file storage.

Unless you have some bright ideas that these other people don't. Many thanks anyway for your prompt and great effort in trying to help in finding the solution.

Firefox 29 and Gmx.com file storage

Gmx.com support replied suggesting updating everything that was up-to-date anyway and anyway that was irrelevant, as access to Gmx.com file storage works Ok with Firefox 28. The only other suggestion from Gmx.com support was to use another browser instead of Firefox - again missing the point. Incidentally, the problem also exists with Firefox 29.01

@journalist We have confirmed your issue. Apparently similar issues are happening on various sites. It will be fixed soon.

Firefox 29 and Gmx.com file storage

Gmx.com has just redesigned its webmail interface and surprise, access to Gmx.com file storage now works OK now with Firefox 29 / 29.01.
