Password prompt

Is there ant plans of a a type of password prompt (when you insert the usb drive it prompts you for a password before you can access the menu) addition to the Portable Apps menu. If so I'd like to know when the addition will come out. Thank you

It wouldn't be secure

The only problem is that it wouldn't be secure. Anything that shows a password for protection without using encryption on the underlying files and data isn't secure. It's just security by obscurity.

That said, I'm thinking about adding a simplistic one in with an appropriate warning for the end-user when it's enabled.

U3 did it. I think what that

U3 did it. I think what that system does is if the user doesnt type the correct password, U3 unmounts the stick. Plus it stores all the apps on a separate "partition" that is only mounted after the password prompt.

Its really fsking annoying how they did it, but it works.

Not secure

It mostly works, but it can't be considered secure. Just resetting the stick allows you to recover any files on it using the undelete utility of your choice... so nothing of great importance should be kept on it. Anything you want secure within U3 should be kept in an app that uses encryption (like SignupShield or Pass2Go) or within the file itself (encrypting your OpenOffice.org files with a password).

Security by obscurity is never really secure.

I enter a login password to use my USB drive...

I have a Kingston DataTraveler Elite - "PRIVACY EDITION", it works on public computers where I don't have Admin rights. When you insert the drive, you have to put in a password before you can use it...More info: http://www.kingston.com/flash/dtep_security.asp

I've been trying to find more info on the Axiom USB drive to see how their privacy software works, see: http://www.axiommemory.com/config/products/branded/USBFD2%2f2GB-AX.aspx

I am looking for a software solution that I can use on my SanDisk Cruzer Mini that works like the Kingston...

Have you tried updating the launchpad software on the sandisk drive?

Probably Won't Help

Most of the older U3 devices don't support the password feature. And, even if it is added with the update, it wouldn't be encrypted like the Kingston drive is, so the data wouldn't be safe from prying eyes if the drive were lost.

Encryption w/o admin

Go to U3 software central and get Challenger under the security window. Then set it to run on insertion. Encrypt the files you want encrypted and you're set.

SanDisk Cruzer Mini 4GB -> Does PASuite work?

Hello,

I have a 4GB SanDisk Cruzer Mini and cannot get the full PortableApps Suite to work. It won't load.

I can get the Lite version or the Base version to load, butI need OO.org and OO.org won't load... it always crashes on THIS particular drive.

Just wondering if I got a bad batch or 10 or this Mini series is junk?

thanks,
Clinton

TrueCrypt

I have a 4GB Sandisk Cruzer Micro. I have 3 GB of that set up as TrueCrypt volume, and I have PortableApps installed into that secure volume.

As has been said many times

As has been said many times here, TrueCrypt requires administrative rights to mount a virtual drive.

Yes

I didn't see anything in the original post saying that would be a problem. Sorry if I missed it.
