Hi, I'm looking for an older version of Chrome Portable (probably version 31 or 32), from before the turned of the ability to add NPAPI extensions from 3rd party web sites. Need the full download, not the online version (*_online.paf.exe) since that doesn't seem to be able to download the needed files.
Can anyone hook me up or provide a link to download the full executable?
Google takes older versions offline because they have security vulnerabilities which are generally being actively exploited and should no longer be used.
If you manage to get a copy of the old full standard installer of a specific version of Google Chrome (not normally redistributed for direct download by Google) you can place it in the same directory as the same installer of Google Chrome Portable and it will use that instead of downloading.
A far better option would be to use Firefox Portable as it supports plugins and is updated and secure.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Thanks for the quick reply, John. I haven't used FF in a couple years, but if it will work, I'll try it. I recall reading that FF was also going to be eliminating NPAPI support, tho. Do you know whether the current version still supports it?
Thanks again.
Mozilla has no plans to discontinue plug-in use. Some outlets misreported the implementation of click to play : https://blog.mozilla.org/futurereleases/2013/09/24/plugin-activation-in-...
Chrome is fully locked down to plug-ins and extensions now. Plug-ins have been removed and you can only install extensions from the Google Chrome extension directory while logged in with a Google account. Firefox still allows plug-in use and extension installs without logging in.
