U3 Apps - disable splash screen

U3 Apps - disable splash screen
Disabling the splash screen in standard PortableApps is well documented on this site and works fine.

I've been unable to do so in the U3 versions. I've changed the folder references to comply with the U3 file structure and tried putting the .ini file in just about every folder in that structure - but to no avail.

Is it even possible? And, if so, would some kind soul post their solution for it.

Cheers,

Nope

There is no INI file support for the U3 versions nor are any advanced options like that planned.

It might not be possible, but

there is a workaround to your problem. Instead of using the U3 version of the app, just use a regular portable app and put a shortcut for it in the U3 menu.

A handy little program being developed by another user of these forums, computechx, works quite well for making such shortcuts. Look for mention of their "Shortcut Creator 4U3" in the forums. I found it allowed me to substitute a portable app in place of a U3 app when the U3 version was balky or outdated. Granted, one can't use U3's program management features though. If one wanted to uninstall, usually one'd go through the U3 menu and just select "uninstall", but here all that would happen is the deletion of the shortcut. One'd have to erase the program manually. Of course that isn't exactly hard...

Hope it helps.

U3 Apps - disable splash screen
Lack of disabling splash screen in U3 is the final straw for me. FF-U3, TB-U3, OO-U3 all now removed and replaced with standard PortableApps versions. (Incidentally can the 'OpenOffice splash screen in OO be disabled?)

OO Splash

There are actually two splashes. The first is a quick one that's part of the launcher. You can disable it the same way as with FFP, TBP, etc. The second is the standard OO splash screen. It's recommended you leave that one as it has a progress bar showing as OO loads its components. If you wish to disable it, the method is the same as disabling the OO splash screen (just the path is OpenOfficePortable\App\openoffice instead of Program Files\OpenOffice.org2).
