Today, Portable Firefox started having "hiccups"--about once per minute (sometimes more), the whole browser freezes up for about 5 seconds. What could be causing this?

..problem, I just assumed it was my USB drive. As I have usually used firefox from the hard drive, either portable from a folder on my desktop at work or the full install on my pc at home. I just asuume it is in the way the data is pulled from the usb drive to run firefox. The drives could be slow no matter the way they are built ot by what specifications. I have smaller programs that run fine, but none like firefox, that is basically open all the time.
Any Ideas if that is the culprit or could it be something in firefox itself?

Every time FF writes to the drive, it pauses the interface. If you're using a slower drive, you'll see this pretty often. That's why stuff like history and form saving is off by default. You can turn off cookies to alleviate this issue... but, well, then you'd lose cookies.

I haven't changed drives; I've been using my iPod shuffle all along. This just started today, and I haven't changed any settings whatsoever.
It gets progressively worse the more you have things writing to the drive. (including as your cookies.txt and bookmarks.html files grow)

I do have history turned on... maybe that's it. I might turn it off, but I won't give up my cookies. One thing I do notice is, it doesn't seem to have a problem on my notebook. The pauses only show up on my desktop.
Hmm. Maybe it's a Windows problem. I'm due to reinstall Windows on that computer anyway.
bit it's probably the history. That plus cookies means tiny writes to 2 different files for every webpage you visit. That's enough to slow things down with a flash device as write speeds are very slow.
