is there any way of disabling the box which comes up and asks me if i want to update firefox? normally it appears when i´m mid-typing and i automatically select "yes" without wanting to. this then slows everything down and also makes me reinstall firefox because the update inevitably doesn`t work.
especially annoying when the current version of firefox portable is being used!
thanks for any help
The easiest thing to do is let it update. It'll take a while (5 minutes on even faster drives) but it should work without issue. Those with slower or less-reliable drives often say it works better (faster and more reliably) to copy FFP locally, update it there, then copy it back.

but I think its due to the extensions that i have installed. Well fails in the sense that if I plugin the USB into another computer, it doesn't want to load properly.
The way I've got around this is to update a virgin copy of Firefox/Thunderbird portable and then just copy the app folder from this copy over my original. Works flawlessly.
Is there anyway to implement a Firefox Portable-specific auto-update function to the program, so that you get the update dialog box coming up when FFP has an update available instead of regular Firefox? Since you are working closely with Mozilla now, this seems like something that both of you should be able to come up with.

It has to use the built-in one.

just disable the auto-update feature and do it manually when you have some spare time.

I am running the u3 version on a SanDisk cruzer. After getting the "do you want to update?" pop-up a few times and saying "later", I went ahead and let it update so that the pop-up would cease.
I am wondering if, by letting it update to 1.5.0.9 (which doesn't show up on the u3 website), I inadvertently upgraded to a version without the special mods you made that prevent FF from beating on my flash drive a lot.
Does version 1.5.0.9 that one gets when FF updates from a u3 drive have all the same "special modifications" for portable media that are talked about on the webpage:

?

It's designed to let you auto-update Firefox. The copy of Firefox internally is unmodified. All the modifications I do take place outside of Firefox itself.
