Notepad++ upload plugin needs admin rights

Hi,

Today Notepad++ shows me that there is a two updates (i dont remember which plugin was). I clik ok. It installed the updates. After that it shows me that it needs restart. I clik ok. But it ask me for admin rights. I did not give it. I close and re-open notepadd++. It shows me that plugins are installed but it still need restart to finish the installation. When I click yes It asked me again for admin rights. That is happening again and again.

At the end I give the admin right now everything works fine.

Why it needs admin rights? That is normal?

Thank you

Next Release Fixes It

It's a minor bug in the current release. I normally adjust the updater so it doesn't require admin rights but forgot to in the current release. It'll be fixed in the next Notepad++ release which is being finalized now. I just need to address this first: https://portableapps.com/node/38262

Still happening in August 2014

Hi all, I'm having the same problem (and it's a work machine so I don't actually have admin rights at all).

This is on version 6.6.8.

Has the problem been fixed? Is it going to be fixed?

I love N++ by the way, it's a brilliant program but it would be even better if this little irritation could go away. Smile

Thanks,
Brendan.

Publisher

We modified gpup.exe for a while to be asInvoker instead of requireAdministrator. We still do, but it likely no longer works. Unfortunately, it looks like the app itself is requesting Windows to up its privs via the API, so it would need to be recoded not to.

Since Notepad++ has an 'official' portable version that we build ours off of, this is a bug in the base app. If you contact the publisher and report this bug, hopefully they will fix it.
