Lost all emails and accounts on Thunderbird for U3

have been using Thunderbird for U3 on my U3 USB stick for sometime and have multiple email accounts configured. Now, suddenly for some reason - and I am not sure why, may have been a virus or something -- all teh emails and email accounts are gone.

When I open Thunderbird, it shows up as if I had just installed it for the first time and is asking me to set up email accounts etc.

I did not manually back up any of those emails. Are they somewhere in a folder? does Thunderbird have them somewhere?

Please help!! The only thing unusual that happened before is that it said a few times "thjunderbird is already running" when no other instance was running.

Please help

Corrupt

Your profile has been corrupted. This is usually due to unsafe ejects or corruption on the drive itself. (Never *EVER* pull a drive without safely ejecting it.)

Any mail that isn't corrupted is still within the profile folder which is in a folder like:

X:\System\FEFECB84-0E05-42d8-B044-F2D0FCFF8C15\Data\Profile

There is information on repairing your profile here:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Folder#What_do_I_do_if_my_profile_is_c...

You'll need to move your folders out of that Profile directory to another one and let TB create a new profile. Then move specific folders like your Mail folder back in. It's a complicated process and, if you're a non-techie, you should get the assistance of a technically-inclined friend.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Looked and found data - restore how?

First of all, thanks so much for this fast and thorough response. I did look through the entire Sytem and found (hidden under some numeric folders) the data. All teh email settings etc. seem to be there.

However, how do I restore the profile? the instructions under the link dont seem to work. What is the easiest way to do this?

All the info seems to be there...

Part II

My apologies for posting under a new topic when not necessary. Basically, I found the folder which seems to have the accounts, inboxes and emails in it. However, I am not able to create a new profile and move it over since evertime I copy the folder it does not seem to copy all.

Anything i can do?

Patrick

Copy it locally

1. Close TB
2. Copy the files within the Data\profile directory to your local PC
3. Ensure they're there. If they are not, then your drive has issues unrelated to TB for U3. You'll at least need to reformat... at most need a new drive.
4. Then delete the files in your Data\profile directory
5. Start TB for U3 (it should create a new default profile)
6. Exit TB for U3
7. Go back to that same directory and copy in the files from the backup you made... but only certain ones. The mail and imapmail directories, for instance. The address book. Things like that. What the files are is described in the link I gave you earlier.

You'll need to recreate your accounts and other info since you prefs.js is probably corrupted. (Everything TB uses is stored in this file)

This process is NOT easy. It is NOT well documented. You're recreating a TB profile from scratch and attempting to save specific files that are not corrupted. And, as I said, if you're not technically-inclined, you'll need to ask someone who is to help you.
