Cannot Close the Platform

I attempted to install 12.0.5 on an external USB HD. Everything went OK. I realized that it found some old portable apps that I did not want to have installed anymore. I attempted to delete them, but must have made some mistake.

Now I cannot close or exit the Platform. Whenever I attempt this, I get a dialog box that says "There are no more files." The box has an OK button that closes the box. However, press "OK" only closes the box. The Platform is still in my tool tray. The only way to get rid of the Platform is to kill it with Task Manager.

I reinstalled both as an upgrade and as a full install, but the problem remains.

What is it trying to tell me with "There are no more files." ?

Determine Error Source, Some Suggestions

A "There are no more files." isn't one of our own error messages. So, it could be a Delphi error, Windows error, or error with the included eject script. Could you please screenshot the error? (CTRL - ALT - SHIFT and then paste into any image editor).

It could also be some corruption on the drive. Often, installing or uninstalling an app means more file records manipulated and is more likely to trigger a corruption issue on a drive with some existing problems. Have you checked for errors?

The apps you uninstalled, did you check to see if they were deleted from the PortableApp directory? If not, you may need to manually delete the rest of the files.

If you think it could be a platform issue, you can reset the platform by deleting the contents of the PortableApps\PortableApps.com\Data directory.

If none of the above help, please include your full install path to Start.exe, OS version and 32/64-bit, how your drive is formatted (NTFS, exFAT, FAT32), and any antivirus or firewall software running.

I tried some other machines

I tried some other machines with the same USB HD. A Win7 box and another Win XP box were both able to exit the Platform without any error messages. Therefore, the problem may be confined to one Win XP 32-bit machine. It has anti-virus installed. It is some corporate version of Panda Anti-virus. That whole anti-virus install is locked down and I cannot even get to a splash screen to see a version number. (This is a machine at work.)

A captured a screen shot of the error message. However, I do not see a way to attach it to this post. There is nothing much in the dialog box. There is a "PortableApps.com Platform" in a blue banner at the top. The only text is "There are no more files." and an "OK" button.

Anyway, since the install works on other machines of the same OS, I will scan, reboot and retest this problem machine. It must be something local.

Thanks.

Possible File Locking or Malware

In some Googling, it seems this error is a Windows error that can be reported by various apps including OpenOffice and others. It is often due to a file locking program or malware on the machine itself.

Works now

I ran a couple of different malware scans. All they found was some tracking cookies. On removing these cookies, it recommended a reboot, which I did. The shutdown took awhile because apparently there was a failed JAVA update lurking around.
After the reboot and re-doing the JAVA update that was bad, it works fine.

In that case

It could have been locked files as rebooting would fix that, but just in case there's something more serious going on I'd check your drive for errors, and probably run "SFC /SCANNOW" (System Files Checker) in an administrative command prompt.
