portable UltraEdit?

Have anyone made a portable Ultraedit? Or can anynoe suggest any similar portable editor with syntax highlight?

Try PSPad. It has syntax highlighting.

Notepad++

I haven't seen a portable Ultraedit yet. However, my favorite Windows text editor happens to be portable: Notepad++. You can download the install or the zipped binary, and the zipped version launches with relative paths andconfigures by XML files. It rocks.

Just my two cents. I looked at PSPad a bit and it does look good, too.

Thanks for pointing that out. I see someone has looked at that before.

I played with it about two weeks ago, and just tested it again. I have had the installed version on my computer before, it uses the Application Data folder for configs. However, I uninstalled and deleted that folder and when I launched versions 3.3 or 3.4 from my USB drive the folder was not recreated and the session file's "modified date" updated in the USB app folder with all other profile info.

Not sure about the registry, though. Anyone else wanna try?

The newest installer has an option to bypass the Application Folder and install all files into the Notepad++ dir.

The only reg entries I have are for context menu items, which are optional.

You can get a zipped archive as well, and this one uses the app folder, not a profile. I think it is portable now.

I forgot about the file associations. Those are optional, of course, but I suppose they would have to write to the registry to work properly.

Does this one count as truly portable now?
