The TBP launcher makes it portable, but sometimes it would be nice to use it directly.

"GnuPG" = Gnu Privacy Guard, a way to digitally sign stuff, commonly used in emails to verify a sender. AKA GPG
"TBP launcher" = Thunderbird Portable, acronym
In summary:
Read the support page for TBP cause it mentions GPG.
I second Bahamut's request, however can't it just be launched by opening the actual exe?

gpg.exe uses %APPDATA% and so it will not detect the keyrings stored in \ThunderbirdPortable\Data\gpg\.

The TBP launcher does. That's why your keyring is seen even as you move from computer to computer.

There is a difference between Portable and It Works, directly running GPG from the TBP + Enigmail + GPG package dosent mean the provided GPG.exe is portable, it will just write stuff to the hard drive. Trust me I did that before.

Hello Group;
You can use GPG in a portable enviroment now. There is all so a GUI you can use with it.
I did post about this in another topic. You can use GPG/GPGshell portabley.
If some one wish instructions I will post a longer reply on how to do this.

Portable GPG / GPGshell
First you need to down load and install
GNUPG Windows binary
GPGshell
After you install both of the above on your PC.
Download the following file.
COPY2USB.EXE.GPG

Place the above file in any directory for the time being.
Extract this file useing your installed GPGshell. You do
this by running GPGtray from you menue. Right click on
the green padlock in your system tray. Choose file\decrypt\veryify
\import. A window will open up and go to the directory
where you placed "COPY2USB.EXE.GPG". This will extract a file called
"COPY2USB.EXE". Copy this file to you installed GPGshell
directory. Make a temporary directory on your C drive. Then run
"COPY2USB.EXE". This will copy GPG / GPGshell to any directory you want.
You then just have to copy your keyrings and config file to the
directory called "GnuPG-home" in the directory you chose to copy
the files to.
I do this first on my hard drive. I make a directory called "GnuPG".
After I copy my keyrings and config file to the proper directory. I will
copy this directory to my USB drive and then uninstall GPG / GPGshell
from my PC.
To run the program Go into the directory you chose and run "GPGtray.exe"
A green padlock will show up in your system tray. Right click on it will open
up an menue. GPGshell uses "ini" files and not the registry. I use this all the
time from a dedecated usb Flash drive. I have never made any key from my USB
But that is just to keep the writes down.
This intire directory could be copied over anywhere you want and still work just fine.
I copy back and forth from my pc at times for long work.
SIDE NOTE:
If anyone could make a launcher that would start "GPGtray", let me know.
Then I could put the launcher in a directory on my USB called "GPGPortable".
The rest of the program could be put in a sub directory called "GPGPortable\App"
then Johns menue would pick it up just fine. From the tray you can do all most every thing.
I need to have gpg.exe and my keyring where they are (inside \ThunderbirdPortable\).
GPGShell refuses to use any location other than its own directory or the regular installation location.

You could use both the instruction I posted need to start off with a installed GPG / GPGshell on your PC.
You can have both the one with GPGshell and portable thunderbird. Just back up you keyrings and import them from one to the other. It is a second step but should work. I do not use thunderbird as I am behind a fire wall that blocks POP3 e-mail.
