I understand (Open)VPN requires admin rights but I still need it on a USB

Reason: I use a Faronics Deep Freeze like solution for system security. And portable apps. But I am admin.

If you scroll down here: https://community.openvpn.net/openvpn/wiki/RelatedProjects

You find this: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ovpnp/
Discontinued for good.

Any solution for me?

take the old one

well I use at some cases the old portable version. In fact it has a mechanism build in that will install the drivers etc.

I one day 'tweaked' it so that I replaced the existing vpn files with newer files I got from normal version of ovpn. I did work.
So try it.

----

if you follow http://sourceforge.net/projects/ovpnp/files/binpack/

you will even find a replace binaries in zip file.

the provided one is 2.2.2 but you can do same with later once.

later binaries you can find for example here:
http://swupdate.openvpn.org/community/releases/

This is more or less the same

This is more or less the same I do (did). Downloaded the latest Portable OpenVPN version from sourceforge, downloaded the most recent version of OpenVPN from https://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/downloads.html (in my case the 32-bit Windows Installer). Extractet the Installer with Universal Extractor and replaced the necessary files in the Portable Version with the files from the extractet Installer. Works like charm... do not forget to check https://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/downloads.html from time to time as there are quite frequent updates...

note

that the portable version will attempt to remove any TAP devices installed on the host computer even if they were installed before.

Hi,

Hi,

I'm new to PortableApps, and now I'm collecting the apps that I would like to run from my USB thumb drive. I would very much need OpenVPN Portable. I see that the version available is no longer maintained (so sorry for this), but I was thinking if it is possible to add somehow the latest version of OpenVPN to the portable version. Searching this site, I saw this conversation and that you already did this. I tried to make it work but I just couldn't, I got lost what and from where should be copied, added.

When installing the portable version, I get an error message when the installer tries to update the binaries from sourceforge, I guess it is because the project is not maintained anymore. I woulD be so much thankful (and I believe many others too) if you could write a step by step guide how to "update" the portable version with the latest OepnVPN version (including the TAP drivers as well, most reasonable choice would be the Vista + version). Could you please do this?

So much thanks for your help!
