Update to 2.1

Can I just download OpenOffice 2.1 and install it over top of the current portable 2.0.4 version?

Yes

Yes. It works for me. If you want to reduce the size to roughly John's package, you will also need to UPX all the exe and dll's and recompress all the jar's.

Do you mean that you

Do you mean that you downloaded OO.o 2.1 directly from OO.o site and just installed it over OO.o-2.04-Portable, and it works fine?

Yes

Yes.

  1. I downloaded install/setup file from OO.o site,
  2. Installed it on my HD with the regular install method,
  3. Compressed all the .exe and .dll files with Jazz-UPX (freeware) with best compression, compress icons, multiple files and include subdirectories options,
  4. Compressed all the .jar files with Python Rejar.exe by Sherpya (freeware),
  5. Deleted all the non-English dictionaires,
  6. Deleted all language folders in the OpenOffice\App\openoffice\share subdirectories (there are lots),
  7. Deleted two .dll's for Chinese and Japanese language something or another,
  8. Deleted all sound and files in OpenOffice\App\openoffice\share\gallery\sound subdirectory,
  9. Copied all of this over to the OpenOffice\App\openoffice\ subdirectory on the USB drive, leaving the App\DefaultData and the Data directories untouched.
  10. Uninstalled OO.o from my hard drive (optional).

The only thing I did not do was leave off some of the modules (to save space) as John did (I do not know which modules he left off).

The package is 149 Mb on the USB drive (FAT32). It works well, starts up fast and has not failed me yet. Ciao
