OneDrive Installation Issue

I have installed the PortableApps Platform on OneDrive. It works fine from the computer (using Win 8.1) from which I installed it. I can launch the PortableApps platform and run installed portable apps.

But when I try to launch the PortableApps platform from OneDrive using my Asus VivoTab Note 8 (also using Win 8.1) I get the following PortableApps.com Platform error message:

"Cannot open file
'C:\Users\Phill_000\OneDrive\PortableApps.com\App\Graphics\Chrome\matte.png'. The file cannot be accessed by the system."

Does the PortableApps Platform have to be installed locally on each computer that accesses its portable apps installed on OneDrive?

Does the OneDrive path have to be the same on every computer? The OneDrive path on the computer I installed from is "C:\User\phillfri\OneDrive".

Or am I looking at a OneDrive problem here?

Windows 8 OneDrive

I believe this may be due to a special behavior of Windows 8's built-in OneDrive software. Microsoft tied it more to the OS with the idea that, at a file-system level, OneDrive paths would only pull the file from the cloud when it was requested. In theory, that's a good idea since it will save drive space. In practice, it's a failure as you wind up with issues like this since OneDrive doesn't keep up with requests fast enough. Due to that, Microsoft is ditching that feature in future releases. For now, I think there may be a way to sync the whole folder without enabling this special behavior but I don't have OneDrive on in Windows 8 at the moment and can't check.

Windows 8 OneDrive

Maybe. But why then does it not fail on both the laptop and the tablet? What you describe is a systemic issue that could happen on any device. But here the laptop always works and the tablet always fails. Could it be that, having installed from the laptop, there is a local copy of this file on the laptop (that does not exist on the tablet)?

Make available offline

I think that "make available offline" is probably the key.

The files live on your laptop since that's where they started. The files are in your OneDrive since that's the sync that is set up. The tablet does not have an actual copy, just a link that will download on demand.

You can make file download to the tablet by right clicking on the file and selecting "make available offline".

That's correct. Competing products like Dropbox have no such setting as 'Make Available Offline' on Windows as EVERY file is available once synced.

felhő alapú telepítés

Sajnos nem sikerült telepíteni a felhőbe a platformot, mert fel sem ajánlja a telepítés közben, csak a helyi gépet. Azt írja, hogy nem elérhető a felhő. Miért?
Köszi a választ.

Cloud Folder

You must install it to a cloud drive folder synced to the local machine. Cloud drives do not permit running applications directly from their storage within a browser or other location.
