Application: Opera
Category: Internet
Description: Web browser
IMPORTANT NOTES: This is (hopefully) the final test release of Opera Portable post 12.x. This app is now configured in final release mode so it will install to OperaPortable just as the old 12.x release did.
The upgrade process can be a bit imperfect so we automatically make a backup of your existing release as OperaPortableLegacy12 as well as a backup of your profile within Opera\Data\profile-12.x. Once upgraded, your bookmarks should be available within the Imported Bookmarks section. Passwords, cookies, and history may or may not be included.
PASSWORDS LOCKED TO ONE PC: As with creating a portable version of Opera from the standard Opera installer, passwords are encrypted and locked to a single PC. All saved passwords will be lost if you move from one PC to another. You can work around this by logging in to Opera and having it sync your passwords.

I haven't gotten any feedback yet, so have people tried it but not had any issues?
Also, wondering how people feel about releasing this sans password saving between PCs and then adding that in later, since there is no Opera portable that saves passwords between PCs anyway. Opera 12.x is too long in the tooth and insecure, so we should probably push this out sooner rather than later.

Just don't replace old opera with new one if this will happen, please.
*started testing*
Just as with the local version, this will replace the existing Opera Portable. Opera 12.x is now unsupported and likely has unpatched security issues. It shouldn't be used any longer.

Started testing this dev test. I am going to report later.
I stopped using the built in password safes a long time ago becaue I am using LastPass instead. I think it's "safer" and a better way of portability.
Windows XP SP2 根本无法运行
提示程序错误
Like most apps these days, I think Opera requires Windows XP SP3 with updates to properly run. XP SP2 is very out of date and insecure.
最喜欢的应用程序,这些天,我觉得戏需要Windows XP SP3的更新才能正常运行。 XP SP2是非常过时和不安全的。

I tryed the older Version, I thought it was 21.x. Opera was running already stable... (short times not for few hours) All my favorite websites working correctly and the loadingtimes are ok. But is there any way to get Adobe Flashplayer (Netscape-API or Pepperflash) in Opera Portable 15.x and higher? A little Tutorial with a Opera-Manifest-File for Pepperflash or else will be awesome. But I heard that Netscape-API based Flash are more stable, so "Netscape-Flash" will be the better idea.
Hi,
I've been using this extension for over 12 months and it works well.

Please delete posting at bottom of the page - Sorry
Can not start new opera when old (opera.exe, not PAF) is running.

Opera, Portable Edition (Test) (PortableApps.com Launcher)
---------------------------
Another instance of Opera, Portable Edition (Test) is already running. Please close other instances of Opera, Portable Edition (Test) before launching Opera, Portable Edition (Test).
---------------------------
I guess there should be command line switch for such issue.
This is by design. We only support a single instance at a time.

This is intentional, and has always been the case.
When OperaPortableDevTest is closed by me, it still works.
opera_autoupdate.exe works forever until it is stopped.
It is in LocalAppData.
So, I must kill it to move OperaPortableTest every time.
I can't reproduce this. Were you running an outdated version? What OS and where do you have it installed?
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Windows7 64bit HomePremium.
Install to Desktop.
Only running this test version.
I just closed OperaPortableTest.
some times ago,I tried to delete that. But,it was not successful.
because,opera_autoupdate.exe was still runnning.
When I kill it, it will succeed.
Updated to the new Opera release.

I sometime lost my Opera Profile, sometimes the Opera reset all to the inicial install stat.
I lost all my data as result of that, all bookmark extensions and configurations.
Sad, but is all right, i know it is beta.
Thank you,
And sorry by my poor english.

Did you associate Opera with anything else so it was being launched with opera.exe instead of OperaPortable.exe? Did you ensure Opera was closed properly when you used it? (On that note, someone else mentioned an issue with Opera being stuck running even when closed, which could affect things)
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I still have the normal Opera installed here on my pc, if is that you mean.
I installed Opera Portable on PortableApp Platform, but I was in the Folder OperaPortable and did do a shortcut of OperaPortable.exe and copied it to desktop to use it instead of opening the platform to open it. Sometimes i use the platform to open it to.
The Opera Portable is not the default browser here, the default browser here is other native browser on my system.
Eventualy i did some force close on OperaPortable too.

Nice...
This is great addition.
Every time I run Opera 20.0.1387.82, it is downloading update (20.0.1387.91) and propose "Restart Opera to update to version 20.0.1387.91".(on tab "About Opera"). But after restart it is the same version (20.0.1387.82) and downloading new version again.
How to turn off autoupdate in Opera or update Opera to 20.0.1387.91?
(Windows 8.1 x64, PortableApps Platform 11.2)
I didn't know that .91 was released, so I'll have that packaged up soon.
I think Opera makes it purposely impossible to turn off auto-update (and it doesn't work right in portable mode). It's one of the reasons this is a dev test and not intended for daily/production use.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Updated to the latest version and disabled auto-update since it doesn't work and would break the package if it did.

Thanks a lot!
Waiting for portable release 21.0.1432.57
I'll update it as soon as I have a chance. Keep in mind that this is a test only and should not be used as your primary browser yet.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Updated to the latest Opera. No other changes.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Thank You for your work. This Opera works good as for me. It is my primary browser.
I have no problem with passwords when move from one PC to another. I use extension "Local pass store" (a password manager with local storage, a bit like old WAND).
How to copy passwords to OperaPortable 20+ :
Every site (with stored in Opera passwords) logon once in the installed Opera. After You press [Ok] by mouse or [Enter] on keyboard on logon screen, "Local pass store" prompts to store password (it depends on, sometimes work both ways, sometimes only one).
Then make backup of installed opera profile by BrowserBackup and restore it into OperaPortableTest with parameters
Browser folder: ...\OperaPortableTest\OperaPortableTest.exe
Preferences: ...\OperaPortableTest\Data\profile\data
Dots (...) mean full path to folder "OperaPortableTest".
But I am not sure if the problems are Opera issues, add-on issues or PortableApp issues, impossible to know since I don't have Opera installed.
One example: I could not create a PortableApps account. I was stuck in an infinite loop of reset password, get email, click on link, Access denied. Cookies and scripts are enabled for portableapps.com, so I don't understand what the problem could be. I get the message:
"Access denied
You are not authorized to access this page."
Finally I just gave up and created the account using Firefox. That worked, but now I am unable to log in with the username/password combination using Opera, I get the same message. I thought it might be the HTTP switchboard add-on, but even when this is disabled I cannot log in to portableapps.com.
Living in a surveillance state.
There are any way to set additional parameters to launcher like in Google Chrome Portable (via ini file)?
See the readme.txt in Other\Source. You can set an AdditionalParameters= line just as with all our apps.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I think that I'm looking on another place, but on "OperaPortableTest\Other\Source" I only found two files:
PortableApps.comInstallerCustom.nsh
PortableApps.comLauncherCustom-NotYetUsed.nsh
So, I think that I got lost here...
Can I, meanwhile, modify another *.ini file, like the one for Google Chrome to be used with Opera?
Someone needs to fix 12.16/17 - instead of copying firefox or chrome - you couldn't just add/fix/upgrade/ what already was working @ 50mb to bust it at an install of 112mb ...
one thing I used opera for was the correct implementation of the zoom slider - it worked - the entire page - flash ads and other crap all zoomed and formatted correctly in opera 12 ... unlike firefox, chrome, ie, or opera 20 ...
sad ...
Please could this package be updated to the latest version of Opera.

Feedback: Installed OK. Migration of bookmarks etc from ver 12 OK.
No issues.

Where is the folder location for the 'Plugins' dir?
Many thanks for the good work,

It should be fixed now. Sorry about that.

In the settings section: On startup
these keep being reset to "Continue where I left off" when the USB stick is switched between PC.
Update required...Please ....
Updated to 25.0.1614.50
If there are no objections, I'm going to push this to official sans passwords with the instruction that users will need to sign their browser into My Opera to keep passwords between PCs.

It was a mirroring issue, see comment by John T. Haller below.

It wasn't uploaded to the second mirror. Should be working now.

I know this is still a dev test and it's only a minor version, but I figured it should be reported anyway:
Opera 25.0.1614.68 is now available from Opera.com.

Please can the latest version be made available for testing.
Thank you, Clive

No motion on the Opera browser front for sometime. Is there a release coming for the Opera Portable 25? It's my main squeeze, and seems to have fallen by the wayside..
26.0.1656.24 - Latest version
Please could an update be made available soon.
Many thanks, Clive

I've updated to the current 26.0.1656.60 release which should alleviate some sync issues.

Зачем делать портативной то,что уже и так существует официально. http://www.opera-usb.com/ru/
That's a completely unofficial build. Basically it's just a zip of what the Opera installer itself generates as the actual official Opera portable. No extra work has gone into making it more portable as we have done here. Opera has had an official portable capability for a while.

is available...
In prepping Opera 27 for a final release, I made a disturbing discovery. It no longer handles import of Opera 12 profiles in portable mode. This is true for both our package and for the standard package of Opera from the publisher. Our version 26 release failed with the same issue.
Anyone know when this may have happened?
I may just push the release out anyway. We'll be co-launching an Opera Legacy Portable release at the same time. And upgrading your Opera 12 Portable version to 27 automatically creates a copy of OperaPortableLegacy12 right next to it as is so you still have all your stuff. We can them supplement with details on exporting your bookmarks from old and importing to new.
Thoughts?

Looking forward to it!
Keep up the awesome job!

I want to use the newer Opera (Test) but am unsure how stable it is compared to the old Opera. Also, any knowledge if and when it will come out of test stage?
See the post immediately above yours.

The newest stable release from their site still has sync, but it's located in a sub menu, as though they don't want it front and center at this point. And after using it, you STILL do not have your speed dial, and favorites do not populate in the usual way. I hope we are moving towards integration. It's one thing to not integrate a plugin or a 3rd party utility. But this is their software! Hopefully the final will have this fixed..I await the final portable version.
I've posted 27.0.1689.76 as a dev test release to the OperaPortableTest channel so that existing test users are up to date. Note that this release is still unable to import Opera 12.x settings, so it cannot be released as final to the OperaPortable channel.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I've uploaded what should hopefully be the last test release. Please test and we'll ensure there are no show stoppers before pushing this out as final.
Note that this release is not being automatically pushed by the PA.c Platform.

Launching the Opera immediately tells me to download Flash, I have flash installed for both IE and FF on the local machine but to proceed further it said I need to download and install Flash for Opera

I'm unsure what you're referencing and can't reproduce it with an upgrade or clean install of Opera Portable 28 on a machine without any Flash installed. Do you mean an error in the app? A screenshot would likely help.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I am attempting to duplicate it John, so far no luck on a clean VM of 7 this occurred when launched on 8.1 I have Flash for Firefox and IE installed locally it had me download and install install_flashplayer17x32pp_chrd_dn_aaa_aih.exe which I believe is the NPAPI for Flash and Opera? I will continue to try and duplicate it as at the time I was in middle of other things so could not grab screenshots, it came up on the launch page so may just been a page trying to load from history??

My local Opera install showed Flash 16 installed in about:plugins even though Firefox has Flash 17 showing. Reinstalling fixed it. No idea how or why. At no point did Opera insist I have to install Flash, though.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Install the "OperaPortable_29.0.1795.47.paf.exe", seem it leaves all the profile in the C, didn't work in the portable folder, tried my backed up v28, which is not this problem.
Anyone else have this problem? or just me?
29.0.1795.47 Rev 2 fixed this problem, thanks for the quick following.
Could you put binaries in folder with fixed path (like you did with chrome )?
It's annoying to set firewall rules on each update.
It's hard coded within Opera's launcher which we may be incorporating to allow end users to automatic update Opera Portable.
