LibreOffice 4.4.1 install question

Hello,

Just a question about the LibreOffice updater, does the installation from the PortableApps update checker remove the extra languages as the .EXE installer offers? I am asking this as I have recently downloaded LO 4.4.1 (currently using 4.4.0) and the installer does not run (when run through 'Install a new app'). Is it worth trying to install it through the update system? I am using MS Vista SP1.

Thanks,
Ian

Error?

By does not run, do you mean it has an error of some sort? What is the errror.

PAF installers don't require admin rights. The installer for LibreOffice Portable is digitally signed for your protection and has a self check that will immediately alert you if it has been tampered with due to infection, corruption, incomplete download, etc.

Re: Error?

To add some detail to the situation, the main PC I run LibreOffice on (My sister's PC), when attempting to install 4.4.1, shows no activity at all when the PAF file is selected. I can in fact continue to access the PortableApps menu and run the existing LibreOffice 4.4.0 already on the stick.

I have just downloaded it on my own laptop, the Chrome browser reported it as possible malware (?), but scans with Avast & Malwarebytes were both negative. On attempting to install, Windows reports that the file does not have a valid digital signature, but checking the file itself - it states that the signature did not verify.

Thanks,
Ian.

Vista SP2 + Patch

Some Windows Vista computers encounter an issue with SHA-2 (aka SHA-256) code signing certificates. I'd recommend upgrading to Vista SP2 ASAP and applying all patches. This specific one is the one I'm thinking of: http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2763674

We switched to SHA-2 certificates between LibreOffice 4.4.0 and LibreOffice 4.4.1. SHA-1 is being phased out. EXEs signed with SHA-1 after January 1, 2016 (9 months away) will be considered invalid. Existing EXEs signed before January 1, 2016 will be allowed until a pre-image attack is discovered, at which time they will also be considered invalid certificates.

Installed new LO 4.4.2

Hi,

Following your advice, I have downloaded the relevant patch for the SHA-2 fix (but yet to install), and have also downloaded the new LibreOffice 4.4.2 PAF - which I'm happy to say, has successfully downloaded and installed, without any error messages.

Thanks,
Ian.
