Hi,
Is it possible to get gmail through Thunderbird Portable within the office..
When I tried adding gmail it does not connect.
Could it be that there is some kind of filter or port block in place?
Thanks!

It could be blocked. Be sure you have it set to SSL and the proper port for gmail as it is more likely to get through. Many corporations only permit port 80 and 443 traffic, though (HTTP and HTTPS).
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I get gmail on browser though. Using chrome portable or regular chrome.
(btw, thanks much for your quick responses)
Gmail in your browser is just a regular website over HTTPS on port 443. Email via IMAP and SMTP is over a different protocol which is usually blocked in most corporate networks.

Since you haven't specifically said if your account has worked with Thunderbird from somewhere else or not, here are a couple of things that may affect you:
It does work from home on Thunderbird. Guess it is the blocking inside the company network then.
Thanks!!
You must activate access to "less sure apps" on Gmail in adanced options but I con only receive email and not send
gmail blocks any mail clients except there own, which means reading mails via Webbrowser seems ok for them, but using any mail clients not. Those clients can be 'registered' on the gmail website. Clients added previously will remain work, but new one have to be added with this complex registration.
