Mozilla's Versioning: Developer Is Always Alpha
Mozilla Firefox Developer Edition is an Alpha. Always has been. It takes the place of the old "Aurora" designation. Firefox now has 5 'channels': Nightly, Developer (aka Alpha), Beta, Stable, and ESR.

Ah, okay. Thank you! I just didn't want to replace my portable version if I already had a stable one.
Sure Thing, PA.c Stability
Sure thing. We always only push stable releases to our stable channel apps, beta to beta, alpha to alpha. So, if you're running a Firefox Portable standard, you'll never get an alpha or beta pushed down the wire. Firefox Developer will only push new developer releases.
It should be noted, though, that Nightly and Developer releases are built regularly, so the version you get will be different depending on when you install it.
