new chrome version 43.0.2357.65 does not start

Hi

just updated from v42.x of Chrome portable to the latest (43.0.2357.65 )

If I click on the icon, or launch from command line,
GoogleChromePortable.exe appears in the process table for a few seconds (~5)
then disappears.
I have tried it with Kaspersky paused - same outcome.

windows 7 sp1
x64
HP Laptop
PA 12.0.5

Any suggestions for troubleshooting welcome

thanks

Try The New Version

Try the new version posted today. .65 had a couple bugs.

Did it work for your previously and now it doesn't?

Is this a work laptop that's locked down?

I've been using Chrome for

I've been using Chrome for over a year.

Its my personal laptop - first time I had encountered an issue.

I have fixed it, by downloading the .paf.exe again and extracting C:\PortableApps\GoogleChromePortable\App\Chrome-bin\chrome.exe
and rplacing it in the folder that the upgrade/install had executed in

its all working fine, the only oddity is that I still have the directory:
C:\PortableApps\GoogleChromePortable\7zTemp
containing the 7z dll and exe,

and also I have both :
C:\PortableApps\GoogleChromePortable\App\Chrome-bin\43.0.2357.65
&
C:\PortableApps\GoogleChromePortable\App\Chrome-bin\42.0.2311.135

so it looks like the install/upgrade did not finish successfully.
I don't remember an error ....

Check For Errors, Manually Delete

I'd suggest checking the drive for errors just to be safe to start. A reboot will then ensure no files are locked.

At that point, you can manually download the current version and install it to the same directory. It should wipe both the 43.x and 42.x versions and install the current one. Your data won't be affected. But I'd do an error check first to be safe (corruption tends to spread).

good advice

.. which I didn't follow Smile

I just updated to the new version (.81) without the fs check.
It starts fine.
It appears to have cleaned up from the previous upgrade issue and I have retained all my history, form data etc

thanks

Chrome not that portable.

Hello,

Same problem here, so the Original Poster is not alone. I reinstalled from the .paf file and it now works so I cannot say exactly what was the problem. It may have been the same problematic version, but I think the problem has existed for at least a couple of months.

I use my portable hard drive very frequently on two computers and less frequently on two others. All use Windows 7 Professional 64-bit French. In all cases, I am the administrator. One one of the main computers I also have Chrome installed locally and on the other I have Google Earth (no Chrome). On the lesser used computers, I don't have either. Chrome is rarely used : it's more to triple-check style sheets.

In hindsight, I suspect Chrome Portable is/was to be used on a single computer. For instance, I installed it on one computer. It worked there a few times. If I happened to try to use it on my other computer, it didn't work, and didn't work either when I came back on the first computer.

I just reinstalled from scratch today Chrome v.43.0.2357.81, and I'll see. I will post back in 2-3 days to say whether the latest version solved the problem or not.

Interestingly, I never had any similar problem with Chromium.

P.S. When I say "it didn't work", it either starts for 3-4 seconds and quits (like the OP), or doesn't do anything at all. Restarting the computer didn't help either.

UPDATE (2015-07-06) : It probably was a problem with a few specific versions. It now works correctly. Thanks
