[Eraser] Unused Space, Context Menu, Tray Icon

A few questions:

1. Unused Space

Whenever I uncheck the 3 checkboxes under Preferences > Erasing > Unused Disk Space > Overwrite, it doesn't stay. If I exit the menu and then re-enter it, they're right back to being checked. How do I disable the option to erase unused disk space?

2. Context Menu

Under Preferences > General > General > Shell extension, it gives the option, "Add menu item to Explorer context menu", but I have it checked and as far as I can tell, there's no option to do so in the right-click menu. Is there something I'm missing here?

3. Tray Icon

For the non-portable Eraser, if you right-click on its icon in the Windows system tray, it contains the option, "Hide When Minimised"; unchecking this makes it so that Eraser doesn't minimise to the system tray and instead stays on the taskbar proper.

The portable version's system tray icon doesn't have this option. Is there a way to prevent it from minimising to the tray and instead just minimise to the taskbar proper?

Base App

The unused space forgetfulness is a base app bug, nothing we can do about that.

You can't use Explorer extensions with portable apps because you'd have to kill explorer.exe to eject.

The version of Eraser we use is older and didn't have this option. The newer version of Eraser is based on .NET and there are no fully portable versions of it yet.

1. Is the unused space erasure feature an automatic thing, or can it only be done manually? Because I figured even if I can't disable it, if it's manual then I could just not do it and I wouldn't have to worry about it.

2. I figured that. I'm pretty sure also that putting options into the right-click explorer context menu requires access to the registry, right, which portable apps don't have. But then if the option isn't possible, why did they have it in there as an non-disabled option? ಠ_ಠ

3. Ah, I see. Dang it. Okay. Thanks, anyway.

Here

Since it's a portable app, it can't be scheduled to be automatic since it doesn't start with Windows.

The app itself is unmodified. We made the app portable, the publisher didn't quite do so. Even when they do, most publishers never disable options you shouldn't do portably (start with windows, explorer context menus, etc).

Soooooooo

The unusued-space deletion feature isn't automatic? I can use Eraser Portable without it automatically proceeding to delete my unused space?

It'd be nice if someone would answer these questions...

@John T. Haller: Could you respond, please?
