Hi!
I can´t remove the folder PortableApps Suite Standard 1.0 from
my computer! In the folder: GraphicFilter is a file called:
fcfg_internalgraphics_filter.xcu
It´s impossible to delete the file, windows say´s the filename is
to loong or is wrong, try change it! But it´s impossible to change.
I´ve tried everything, in safemode, Moveonboot etc but i will not be deleted.
Could someone please help me.
Regards Michael
This is due to a logical error on your drive (hopefully not hardware related). Run check disk on your drive in Windows. If this fails, copy all the files from your drive to your PC, format the drive, then copy the ones you want back. Removable drives can get weird sometimes.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Problem is that it´s not on my USB drive the problem is,
the file is located on my HDD..
But i´l try to run a disk check on the HDD.
I had this before - google the erase command built into windows.
I think if you run cmd, cd to the correct directory then type erase filename, then it should work. If you google erase then you can find more info - it worked for me!
I think you have to use the 8.3 file name for it, i.e. the truncated DOS form of it's filename.
Let us know if you have any luck!
I´ve tried Ubuntu Live-cd, but i wont work on my computer,
then i tested with Knoppix Live-cd 5.1, Knoppix works great, nearly..
Knoppix finds everything on my computer, even my USB disc´s but not
my HDD..?? So i cant get to the file i want to delete.
The shourtcut is: C:\Documents and Settings\Micke\Mina dokument\- Freewarefiles and moore -
I want to delete the folder "- Freewarefiles and moore -"
I want to try and delete it in cmd, but i dont know how to
type in cmd, never used it..
BTW, sorry about the English...it´s been a while since i left school hehe
I have had the same problems, and it's to do with Windows being stupid when saving web pages to a USB device formated using FAT32. Some of the filenames ended up that long that the files couldn't be moved, copied or deleted through through windows. I just put in a ubuntu livecd, and it instantly deleted the files for me.
Hope that helps if you're still having problems.
since Windows is not loaded it can't give you its crappy additude. I used this method for accessing the WINDOWS folder on my school laptop in order to patch that theme dll thingy that allows you to use themes not created by Microsoft. Besides I am gonna make every comp in my future home a Linux comp (Ubuntu). Right now I don't wanna have to put up with Micro**** Winblows XP Amateur or Vista's DRM in the future.
I´ve finaly made it..
Found this on a Microsoft page:
"Resolution 2: Rename or move a deep folder
Rename the folder so that the target files that are deeper than the MAX_PATH no longer exist. If you do this, start at the root folder (or any other convenient place), and then rename folders so that they have shorter names. If this step does not resolve this issue (for example, if a file is more than 128 folders deep), go to Resolution 4"
I´ve only tried to rename: PortableApps Suite Standard 1.0 folder,
But when i tried to rename the last folder it worked.
Thank you all for your help.
Best Regards Michael
Try installing Unlocker (http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/), and deleting the file again. Unlocker should ask you what to do with the file after windows gives excuses for its inadequacies. If so, it should be able to delete the file for you.
Boot in safe mod (from msconfig)and delete the file from there.
Also is good idea to search first in google for booting in safe mode +XP +msconfig.
