Gmail is super slow

Over the last year I have been having issues with Gmail running really slow when using the portable version of FireFox. It takes forever to load and slows the entire browser down to the point that its unusable. On any other website it runs fine so I don't think its a hardware issue. For awhile things were running fine then updates started to come through that I should have denied. This lag is so bad that I cant even type out a reply unless I wait for 10 minutes for it to do whatever it has to for it to work fine. Any help in getting my Gmail to work properly again would be appreciated.

Media Speed

I'd wager it's due to the speed of your media if you're using a flash drive. You either enabled disk cache in Firefox which slows the browser down a lot or configured Gmail for offline use which saves a lot of data to the drive as well. Combine this with using an older/slower drive and it will be very slow.

If you don't use a flash drive, maybe try a fresh install alongside your current one to see if it's due to an extension or configuration issue within your primary install.

Sorry for not responding. I

Sorry for not responding. I kind of forgot about this. But I have FireFox set up to not cache anything and I have never used google offline. As to the actual drive its a 3.0 Corsair Voyager GO that has no issues with transferring large files around. And years ago I had similar issues on a Corsair survivor. This problem comes and goes with the various updates.

Small Files

What affects Firefox's speed on a given drive is the small file performance. Being able to transfer a bit 1GB movie file doesn't tell you about small file performance which is due more to the controller. And a USB 3 drive with a slower controller can be slower than an old USB 2 drive. You can check out your performance using something like CrystalDiskMark Portable. The 4K performance is what you're looking at.
