Google Chrome (older version 34)

Dear Forum !
My computer is not able to run Chrome versions newer than 34 (processor incompatibility).
I've been using Chrome 34 as portable app with great success for years, but after an accident
just lost my hard disk, so need to reinstall.

I have installed the up-to-date Portable Chrome from thus site - as expected, Chrome 45 crashes
at launch (they aren't even capable of testing and noticing my proc can't do SSE2 !)

Problem : can't seem to find a link (URL) for downloading the Google Chrome 34 installer.
The trick, given in your help file, to form a download URL per version, doesn't work, I get the
newest Chrome from Google whatever :=(

Where / how can I get the Chrome 34 installed again ? I /hate/ Firefox and, of course, MSIE even more !

Thanks in advance !

Completely Insecure

An older version of Chrome like that is insecure and should absolutely not be used on the public internet. You'd be giving any site that wants it complete access to your entire computer. Really bad remote execution bugs like CVE-2014-3188 that allow any site you visit to run code and remotely exploit your PC. Things like installing viruses, stealing all your photos, sniffing out your bank and credit card information, locking all your data up and holding it for ransom, etc. That's why Google has pulled the older versions of Chrome from their website.

Let me reiterate that in no uncertain terms. Under no circumstances should you browse any website you don't control with this older version of Chrome.

You should either select another secure browser like Firefox or upgrade your hardware. I realize the latter may not be feasible due to financial constraints, but it will impact your ability to use more and more software as more and more apps and compilers assume everything has SSE2 support due to the fact that it was introduced 14 years ago.

With due respect, John T., I

With due respect, John T., I know what I'm doing. And no, using Chrome 34 - as I had been until this morning - is not a liability being behing a router (inc. firewall) plus Windows' own firewall. I've been using computers since, oh, many many years before Windows and even DOS existed ! I have never been infected. Thank you however for the reminder.
Now please people, has anyone a working link to Google Chome 34 installer ? Thanks in advance.

No Help

With respect, neither a router nor the Windows firewall will do anything to mitigate any of the dozens of vulnerabilities present in Chrome 34. Absolutely nothing except maybe alert you to some infections after you've already been compromised.

Our Chrome Portable installer is a live installer. It downloads from Google. Google purposely removed them because no one should be using them even if they have the best complete hardware firewall and multiple antiviruses money can buy.

If you can find a 3rd party site hosting the appropriate version of Chrome for the portable installer you can place it alongside and it will use it instead of downloading it. But I can't assist with finding it.

Incidentally, I've been using computers since around the time of DOS' creation in 1981 as well and there is absolutely no way I would run a compromised browser like Chrome 34 on the public web even with 2 firewalls and 3 antiviruses and only visiting legitimate websites.

Agree to disagree. I am not

Agree to disagree. I am not asking YOU to run Chrome browser 34; I am wanting
to run it. Not my fault if the Google devs are retards - for they chose to force SSE2
in building - and moreover, incompetent morons - since their binary /crashes/ instead
of failing gracefully. Anyway,I respectfully submitted a question which you chose
not to reply to, answering instead a question which was not put. Do you know whether
the old builds are still dowloadable from Chome and/or Chromium ? The instructions
that /you/ provide as part of /your/ bundle are /outdated/, consider this an honnest
documentation 'bug' report.
P.S. Google 34 is /only/ little more than one year old, tis not as if it dated back from 1981 !
Oh, well. this is disgusting (not yours, the Google team attitude)

I Replied In Detail

I replied in detail above. Our portable installer downloads it live from Google. Google removed it from their servers on purpose. You may be able to get it from a 3rd party site and sit it alongside the portable installer for it to work but it must be the specific type of installer the portable installer uses. The installer it is expecting is listed in the installer.ini within the package you can extract with 7-Zip if you're so inclined. I cannot provide details on where to download the old Chrome installers.

Note that this method of installing is unofficial, undocumented, and unsupported. This is by design. It may break tomorrow. The only official way to install Google Chrome Portable is to run our installer that downloads it from Google and to use the current released versions of Stable, Beta, and Dev.

As mentioned, it's not unreasonable for apps today to assume an instruction set introduced 14 years ago is in use. Most apps that do so will fail ungracefully. LibreOffice was doing this for the last 6 months as well. You're going to be necessarily limited in the software you're able to use, moreso in the future. You may not like it. You may disagree with it. But that's unfortunately the way it works today and will work in the future.

I may add an SSE2 check to Google Chrome Portable's launcher at a future date. We do that for another app as well that uses an alternate EXE. But I don't want to get into the habit of having to check for everything.

John, Thank you. I'm hoping I

John, Thank you. I'm hoping I'll find a copy of Chrome 34 for Windows binaries on the vast wild net :=)
While it is certainly not your fault if newer Google Chrome installers do not check properly
for processor compat, indeed if you did add checks to your own installer that would be a fine enhancement.

Finally to assuage your concerns about my browsing safety, be assured I use Noscript in tightly locked configuration (only ever allow scripts case by case, temporarily, and when absolutely required, even on sites I trust) Oh, and Adbolck Plus, no persistent cookies... I'm more than relatively safe online, I rhink

My deleted post only had:
a) One "legal" link to the latest GoogleChromePortable v.34 online installer at sourceforge.net
b) The name of the standalone chrome installer (with md5 checksum taken from properties of official online-installer)
c) A link to a known file search engine.

If you don't like users to download old versions, you should better delete them from sourceforge.
Equivalent Iron portable version 34 is still available at sourceforge, and has the same vulnerabilities as chrome 34.

Available != help

While the files, and the pertinent information relating to them, are freely available either on SourceForge or elsewhere, as noted above we will not assist a user in finding or using those files.

We archive the majority of the versions we have released of the software provided here. However, although those files are available, we do not provide support for using them.

It's not that we don't want users downloading old versions, although we strongly recommend not to, it's that we will not provide assistance here for users wishing to do so.

Yes, the equivalent Iron Portable is available, however it should not be used either.

SF Link Ok

I think the SF link is ok as long as it's accompanied by a warning.

Link

Acocrdingly, here's the link to Google Chrome Portable 34: http://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Google%20Chrome%20Por...

Use of this version of the browser is strongly discouraged, as numerous security vulnerabilities have been fixed since it came out.

In order to use this installer, you will need to secure the corresponding Chrome installer from a 3rd party site and place it alongside the portable installer.
