Issue
I posted about my situation over on John T. Haller suggested I try something and then post a new thread if I the issue persists. But, even though it did not, I'm quite frankly flabbergasted at that fact and so am posting this because I'd like to see what you may think might have been the/a cause. This was the thread snippet between Haller and me:

Will this patch work with 5.0.1.?
The same thing is basically happening to me, except although LO shows up in the task manager, it just stops at the splash screen. And even when I end the process via task manager, the splash screen stays displayed for a while. Eventually, it goes away.
This issue has happened with every version since a couple versions ago. That's also, of course, when I just started using the portable version, so for all I know, it very well could have started much sooner than that had I used it before then.
I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling LO portable (through PAP) multiple times, and this has been the case every single time. Not once has it gone beyond the splash screen, as described.
John T. Haller writes:
Already IncludedThe patch was for the old 5.0.0 release which didn't include the VC12 runtimes. LibreOffice Portable 5.0.1 already includes all the necessary runtimes. If you're having issues now, it's something different. LO Portable 5.0.1 runs without issue on Windows XP through Windows 10 regardless of VC++ runtimes installed now. Please post a new note with the complete details of your issue. Also try running soffice.exe directly. It'll run in local mode (local settings, etc) but will show you whatever error it is that it's encountering.
So I re-installed LibreOffice Portable (I had uninstalled it soon after having this thread snippet), and then went to /PortableApps/LibreOfficePortable/App/libreoffice/program
and ran soffice.exe
. Bingo! It worked absolutely perfect.
Then, I closed it by X'ing out the window, and then opened up Task Manager. Once I was sure that LibreOffice was closed, I ran LibreOffice Writer from PAP, expecting it to fail as it has so often before. And yes voilà! Twas working just fine now.
Does anyone know what may be the, or at least a, cause?
Because frankly this baffles me.

you seem to imply that whatever problem I was facing was self-inflicted.
