Opera Portable Not Saving Settings

I've been using Firefox Portable for several years. Due to performance issues (speed and Flash problems) I'm looking at switching to Opera Portable. I don't run the portable browsers from a USB drive but I install the portable version on the C:\ drive in the Documents folder under my profile (work PC). Half the time when I'm using Opera portable it doesn't save my profile settings when closing the browser. I'll reopen Opera Portable and all the Speed Dial modifications are gone. All the Bookmarks are gone. All the previous tabs I had open are gone (I have it set to "Continue where I left off). All installed Extensions are gone. Anyone else run into this? I'm not a fan of using Chrome portable so I'd like to get Opera Portable working. I'm not using the "Private" windows. Any suggestions?

How Launching? Exiting?

Are you launching it by running OperaPortable.exe or running from the PA.c Platform? Did you associate opera as your default browser? Are you letting Opera exit fulling after closing it (it can be slow to close down).

At present, Firefox is the best-performing portable browser. Flash issues are unfortunately an issue with the flash plugin itself. Firefox is also the only one of the major ones that's fully portable and not working against the browser itself to be portable.

I'm opening it from the

I'm opening it from the operaportable.exe. Yes I'm letting Opera close fully. I've not yet associated Opera as the Default browser.

Sync with Opera?

Do you have it set to sync with Opera? If not, Opera could now work the same as Chrome does. Your passwords, open tabs, search settings, extensions, and extension settings are all locked to a single PC and will be lost when you move to another PC. Chrome's Blink engine appears to now be built this way by default. As Opera is based on Blink as well, it may work the same way. If that's the case, you'd basically lose everything but your bookmarks. Are your bookmarks still intact?

Yes, I have Synchronization

Yes, I have Synchronization setup with Opera. So my bookmarks come back. My open Tabs don't come back. My Speed Dial links don't come back. At home I just started to use Opera also. At home I use the full, non-portable version. No issues there. I could understand how some of that may be lost when going to a new PC, but sometimes this happens when I close Opera portable on one PC and then open Opera portable within a few minutes on the same PC - not having used Opera on any other PC.

It may be that you pinned

It may be that you pinned Opera to your taskbar by right-clicking on the taskbar icon of a running instance of Opera and now you are trying to start it from the pinned icon. This actually invokes Opera.exe and not the launcher, which somehow causes opera to save a new blank profile so that even if you run the launcher afterwards, your settings are already lost.
