Firefox - profiles.ini - issue with overwriting on update

Am I correct that when PortableApps updates Firefox it overwrites PROFILES.INI in the ...\App\Firefox directory?

This gives me a problem in that I have several profile pointers set in that file that I have to re-create after every update.

Is that the intended behavior?

Best wishes

Not Used

Firefox's profile manager is not portable and should not be used with Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition. It's made for locally installed profiles only.

If you'd like additional profiles with Firefox Portable, please use Second Profile: https://portableapps.com/support/firefox_portable#second_profile

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Ciao. Thanks for the

Ciao. Thanks for the clarification. I understand now why PROFILES.INI is off limits.

BUT, it IS possible to use Profiles.ini in a portable compliant way. Rather than Second Profile, which I find a little cumbersome, I use the Firefox extension ProfilistPortable (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/profilistportable/?src=api). All my paths in Profiles.ini are RELATIVE, not absolute. I never use Firefox's profile manager directly so I have no idea whether it has any grasp of what is going on.

As far as my issue goes, I will simply continue to copy back my bespoke Profiles.ini after each update.

I will copy our discussion to the developer of the Firefox extension.

Best wishes.
