AquaSnap new version

I apologize if this is the wrong forum to post this.

AquaSnap Portable, when run, reports there is a new version.

Do others agree that auto-updaters for apps should be turned off by default so that "phone home" calls are not automatically made?

By default it is turned off

I will recheck the setting in the ini but by default it is turned off. Also I have sent the latest to John fo release, it should be up soon.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I have checked the default ini as well as the launcher and the AutoUpdate is changed to not auto update, are you noticing this e3ach time you run app or on firts run? I will investigate more later tonight as may have to code it in a little differently.

Thanks!

Thanks!

It happened right after I installed the app and ran it. I immediately went into the settings and unchecked that option!

BTW, are you the AquaSnap developer or the portable apps expert who converts it to work with the PAP (or both!)?

I be the PortableApps developer

However I am in constant contact with the Aquasnap developer, and I am trying to make it work right on new install sorry. After a first run it fixes itself. Still working on it to not occur on first run. 1.16.0 should be released soon. However if you have any issues with the PortableApps version I be the go to guy.

Great to know! Thanks for

Great to know! Thanks for all your hard work!

There is one option I would like in the portable version that may not be possible. I would like the option to start AquaSnap on boot. The option is disabled in the portable version, likely because it would make a change to the registry. I would like the option to be enabled, perhaps with a warning message. But I totally understand if this cannot be done if it is against the spirit of Portable Apps.

hmm

Boot of computer or boot of Portableapps menu?

if first then Windows would error out if not on machine as in USB stick not plugged in.

If latter you could choose to have it auto start on boot of menu right click on the name on menu and choose autostart.

Yes, I was referring to boot

Yes, I was referring to boot on Windows. I don't think Windows would error out... it just wouldn't find the exe, and would continue on without problem.

Bypasses portability

Sorry, but it is not possible to directly enable the auto-run on boot with AquaSnap Portable, as this would bypass the portability. As has been advised, there are two options for this functionality:

  • Install AquaSnap as provided by the publisher, in a "normal install", and enable the auto-run on boot, or
  • Set the PortableApps.com Platform to run on boot, and set AquaSnap Portable to run when the Platform starts.

Should be fixed

https://portableapps.com/news/2015-12-20--aquasnap-portable-1.16.1-released

If I enable the ability to start with windows it would effectively break the program as if used usb the stick would not be recognized until after windows booted.

DO you run it locally? IF so is the Platform launched at the boot? if so there may be a work around.

If run from Platform, you could ad it to platform where it would launch when platform was.

Ok if run locally

Then not portable so would suggest then local build? If not have platform run at startup and then have Aquasnap run when platform launches

When you mention "local build

When you mention "local build" are you talking about the build made offered by the developer or creating a custom build?

Regarding "run when platform launches", you are talking about the option available when right-clicking on the app within the PA Platform, correct?

Local as in eitehr one installed on the hard drive or one developer makes that is usb compatible.

Also yes I am referring to Right click and run at startup.
