Could we find and implement replacement for DamnVid? As it can't download videos from YT (or I'm so stupid that I can't get it working) and developer stated that he doesn't plan to support program anymore (I e-mailed him about it). If I can suggest a replacement I would probably suggest Youtube-dlG (Youtube-dl with GUI), it's public domain, it's a bit heavy with 80MB, but it works.
I didn't wanted to post this topic in requested apps as I don't know what app should be requested, maybe someone will have a better suggestion.

There are numerous websites that calculate the appropriate YouTube stream file and allow you to download them directly in your browser in MP4 format which are far better than any hacky YouTube downloader app.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
If you use Firefox to access YouTube, I've found two extensions that have worked well through several Firefox generations:

I can highly recommend TVideo Downloader [https://sourceforge.net/projects/tvideodownloader/]. I even use it for Vimeo and it just works. The same dev is also behind TEncoder Video Converter and TAudio Converter. He also has a few other projects that, in my opinion, are worth taking a look at.
