LibreOffice Portable 5.0.3 Black Screen on Windows 10 Home 64-bit

I'm having issues with LibreOffice Portable 5.0.3 on my new Windows 10 Home 64-bit laptop. Whenever I open it, the LibreOffice window is just black. Even the splash when starting the program is black. I'm not getting any errors or crashes. The Windows title bar shows up and is functional (I can minimize, restore or close just fine) but everything inside the window is just plain black.

This is my first and only Windows 10 computer and it's a fresh download and install of LibreOffice Portable. Never had any issues with any of my Windows 7 machines (both 32 and 64 bit). I also tried the LibreOffice Portable Still 4.4.5 version on the Win10 laptop and that seems to work fine so I'm using that in the mean time.

I like my system as clean as possible so I don't really wish to install the regular LibreOffice version just to see if the issue is inherent with LibreOffice or if it's just the portable version that has problems.

Thanks!

Video Driver

This is nearly always due to a malfunctioning video driver. Be sure you have the most recent video driver from your manufacturer. Sometimes it's the case that the video driver from the manufacturer is buggy, sometimes the one delivered via Windows Update is. Sometimes both. It can also be due to a malfunctioning video card/GPU in the machine itself. Generally, laptop video drivers are buggier than desktop video drivers as laptop manufacturers customize the video drivers from the OEM (Intel, AMD, Nvidia) and add their own bits. Some laptop builders are better at this than others.

If that fails, you'll need to install LibreOffice locally temporarily to see if the issue is with the app itself or not. You can then uninstall and delete the %APPDATA%\LibreOffice and %LOCALAPPDATA%\LibreOffice directories to remove all settings afterwards.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Intel GPU is the culprit

Thanks for the tip!

I've got a Skylake (Core 6th gen) laptop with Nvidia Optimus with default GPU set to Intel. It seems like the culprit is buggy Intel drivers. I've already updated the Intel drivers and it kinda worked but showed some corruption/artifacts for a split second when opening drop down menus, etc.

I've now assigned LibreOffice Portable to use Nvidia graphics in the control panel and everything's working fine. Ugh, it feels wrong to use the higher powered, dedicated GPU for simple office work but what can you do.

Thanks again!
