I am setting up a PC after fitting a new large hard drive. I just downloaded added MPC-HC to my portable apps folder to replace a stand-alone portable version on a different partition.
When I opened this new player for the first time I was surprised to find that the playlist window was already open as it had been in the other player, and although I had to set up file associations, the custom key settings from the other player were also there. If these apps are portable I don't see how this is possible without copying the .ini file from the old to the new.
Any thoughts?

Windows maintains the last location in a File Open/Save window itself independent of the app.
Don't set it to use file associations as those will be non-portable and launch the app in local mode.

I wish I had known that before.
If you set MPC-HC to launch with an internal file association, it will run in local mode when you launch it from a file, so it will use the local settings for MPC-HC which likely have your custom key assignments due to the regular portable version bleeding settings to the local.
