Enabling web interface control, I can't find the hosts file in the VLC Folder

http://www.howtogeek.com/117261/how-to-activate-vlcs-web-interface-contr...

Essentially I want to be able to control vlc from another computer so my desktop connected to my LCD TV can be controlled from a browser on my tablet.

I got up to a step where I have to edit VLC's hosts file, but I navigated to the appropriate folder, but see nothing.

Is this a portable app quirk and should just install in locally?

I prefer portable apps obviously, and would like to keep it that way. Thanks.

Create One

You should be able to manually create one if you'd like. Though creating Windows files that start with a . can be problematic. I don't know if it will work in the portable version as I haven't tested it.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

I guess it won't hurt to try.

I guess it won't hurt to try.

It will be interesting to create the file, since its basically a relablled text file.

It will be interesting to see if it works just by droping it into said folder and being recognized.
