Put the latest version of this on my USB stick. Ran it and scanned my PC. It did its business and then I closed it. However, it seems to have put files on my PC without my asking for it.
Namely, a shortcut on my desktop called "Post Win10 Spybot-install". When I restart my PC, I get a prompt "Post Win10 Spybot-install" wants to change settings on my PC. What's going on here? I thought portable apps shouldn't try to install anything on the PC.
On further inspection, it has also installed its folder into Program Files (x86), putting a file called SDAV.dll, and putting some files in its own folder in Program files\Common files\AV

Spybot Portable was never tested on Windows 10. The last version of the app came out before Windows 10 even existed. It likely adds specific things on update now that the launcher isn't made to handle. I'll take a peak and see about updating the launcher to handle this added functionality.
Just to note that this behavior also now exists after an update on Windows 8.1 Update 1 as well.

Spybot Portable 2.5 now released, but official Spybot current version is 2.4 (it is not released yet).

What do you mean?
On Windows 8 and up (and possibly Windows 7), after you install, Spybot automatically asks to update to 2.5. Proper function on Windows 10 requires 2.5. So, we package that version. I believe Spybot offers 2.4 for their default download to maintain compatibility with Windows XP. We're more concerned with the growing Windows 10 userbase than the dwindling Windows XP userbase.
