Does it make any difference if I update firefox with the built-in updater?
I've been doing that until now, but I read in the firefox support page that I could lose some data.....??
Nothing bad has happened yet, but I just want to know if it's ok to update firefox with the built-in updater...
Thanks in advance...

Updating firefox with the built-in updater
Using the built-in updater will work. It will leave a couple empty folders behind on the local PC. It's best to update the whole package so that you get updates to the launcher as well. Otherwise you'll eventually have stuff break. Using the PortableApps.com Platform makes updating the whole thing easy.

What do you mean, break? :o
Will the browser stop working?

Over time, the way Firefox works changes, so our launcher is adjusted to keep up with it. New things to make portable. New things left on the PC to clean up. Eventually, yes, it could break.

Thank you so much John for the detailed answers !
I was worried because I have just clicked by error on "Update" on the pop-up inside the browser...
Instead of downloading the huge installer, I could just update Firefox with the built-in updater and then run the PA launcher over it to get a new launcher, right?

Our launcher is only distributed within the full installer.

I guess I'll do this: update with the built-in updater when I'm busy/in a hurry/don't have much time, then I'll update with the installer from here when I have time....

I've been updating Firefox from within the program for a while because updating through PortableApps fails. It reports "Connecting..." until it times out. Same problem with Thunderbird. Other programs have updated successfully.

Unless firefox comes up with a major update, I think it will be ok to update with the built in updater~

but you can download the installer, then execute it from the platform. That's how I do it.... I'm on limited internet and can't run the updater on two separate set ups.
Downloading->installing->deleting the installer; all that takes so much more time....
I think I'll stick with auto update as long as I can...
