Hi,
after each update I run with my portable google chrome browers I always get the same error message:
"Google Chrome portable cannot be started"
Then I always have to reinstall the chrome browers. Does anybody knows the problem and a solution?
Here my error message:

I found the following solution and it works fine!

But I think the problem would exist after the next update again!?
Are you updating via the PortableApps.com Platform? Is the contents of GoogleChromePortable\App\chrome empty when this occurs? When you say you reinstall, are you just downloading and running the Google Chrome Portable installer?

I have repeatedly received this Chrome message using Portable Apps updates. I originally assumed it was just a bad install but then uninstall from the PAP would not work. It seems that the folder
"...\PortableApps\PortableApps\GoogleChromePortable\App\Chrome-bin"
has for some reason got some sort of permissions issues. This has happened after I deleted all of the directories under GoogleChromePortable and reinstalled through PAP twice more. Any suggestions with this? The most recent occurrence was an update earlier today that failed in the same way.
None of our apps adjust permissions on their own folders. The installer doesn't even have code within to do so. If that's happening, either something is wrong with the drive or something on your PC like a malfunctioning antivirus is messing with it.

I've just confirmed that the same problem exists on another Windows 10 PC. The PAP was installed within the Public user. I attempted to uninstall the Chrome app and got a file permissions error in the folder mentioned above. John, can you advise what permissions are on your install of the folder Chrome-bin? Weirdly even as Admin on this latest test I could not delete the Chrome-bin folder.
Google Chrome Portable's installer and launcher make no changes to any permissions of files or folders at all. There's not even any code within them to do so.
Two things. First do they use the same antivirus? Second, did you set Chrome to run in the background? If so, it may not be a permissions error, it may be running. Check Task Manager. An extension you are using can be triggering this scenario.
