Chrome for XP/Vista after Google drops support April 2016

Google is dropping updates for Chrome on XP/Vista in April 2016, see
http://chrome.blogspot.com/2015/11/updates-to-chrome-platform-support.html - Google Announcement
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/B51yxkb2HlE - one of many related Chrome help forum topics
Will Portable Chrome continue to be available for XP/Vista after the April 2016 cutoff?

I'm guessing Chrome v49 will be the last supported version for XP/Vista.
Will Portable Chrome be available for later versions (v50+) for use with XP/Vista?

Portable Chrome doesn't have to worry about compatibility with Google Update - the portable versions are frozen.
What about the sync function used to sync settings/bookmarks/etc across devices?
Any idea when the sync used with Portable Chrome (v49) (for XP/Vista) will have problems syncing data with later (v50+) versions of Chrome on other devices?

later, Larry

Detailed

I detailed it here: http://johnhaller.com/blog/2016-03-04--google-chrome-50-drops-support-fo...

This was pushed out to PortableApps.com's social media channels yesterday.

Chrome 50 on XP does not work. It utilizes system calls that are only supported on Vista and up.

Chrome 50 currently works on Vista but may not in the future. Google no longer builds it for or tests it on Vista. So one version may work while the next will not.

Upgrade your OS or switch to Firefox. You should not use Chrome 49 after Chrome 50 is released as stable. It will be insecure. I'm hoping that Google will display a permanent non-dismissable message to that effect.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

try firefox

I used to stubbornly stick with chrome, but after some issues, and John recommending Firefox, I tried it out, and never looked back....
It has improved a lot since I first tried it several years ago....
It is now truly a much better browser than chrome....
So try it out; I promise you won't be disappointed..... Smile

I love PortableApps! ❤❤❤

I don't agree with the guy

I don't agree with the guy who recommend you using Firefox. Google has its advantages as well and it is more compatible with many useful plug-ins than FF. Some protection plug-ins can help you avoid malware attack. I used to use FF and it turned out that it is very easy to be attacked especially the Search.utilitab.com redirect. I caught this pest in the past time, though removed successfully via some guides from the Internet, i rather never use FF again. (Source of how i kill Search.utilitab.com: http://www.removeadsfix.com/remove-search-utilitab-com-virus/) But whether you use Chrome or Firefox, it really depends on your habit

No pain, No gain

if there is no google

well but this is about that there is no google chrome for XP after april, so all the advantages you mention do not exist as well. Basically you have no choice.

Currently, even the local installation of firefox on my XP SP3 fails, mozilla installer will stop and install only 43 instead of 45. No updates then apparently.

So it looks like if you want have current browser, use portable firefox 45 .
