[Closed] Platform 14.0 Erased My Flash Drive [logical errors, fixed]

Been using Portableapps for years. Went to upgrade to the new version today (was ready to make a donation). It totally erased my drive. Anyone else?

Exactly What Happened?

Could you describe exactly what happened as it happened? Also, what do you mean by "erased"? Was it formatted with a new name? Is it still accessible in Windows Explorer?

Inserted the flash drive I

Inserted the flash drive I use for Portableapps and other diagnostic software. Launched Portableapps (Win7, 32-bit system), just as I always do. Got prompted for the upgrade to the new version. When done, launched again, got prompted for the app updates, then got prompted for a location, on the drive, to install them (usually just installs the updates). Went to check the drive and EVERYTHING was deleted from the drive. Yes, I can access the drive in Explorer, just fine, it's just empty now.

Empty?

If the drive is empty, how is the PortableApps.com Platform running and asking you to update?

Update! I removed the flash

Update! I removed the flash drive and reinserted. Ran Checkdisk and repaired sectors and miracle of miracles, everything came back. Never seen that happen before. Thanks anyway.

Not Uncommon. BACKUP NOW

Things like this are not uncommon. An issue like this can indicate a few things:

1. That the drive's hardware is failing and it should be replaced. Be sure to backup!

2. That the drive is subject to overheating after a good amount of consistent writing. This is most often observed when updating lots of software in addition to the platform. LibreOffice/OpenOffice is the most common app associated due to the large number of files. The drive should probably be replaced. Be sure to backup!

3. That the system has some issues with this particular USB port. This often indicates a possible short. Keep an eye on it. Maybe use another port for a while if it recurs. Be sure to backup!
