Chrome portable on XP. just won't load anymore.....

Is it me?

I kept reading in the info bar that Chrome was going to stop working for XP but thought that was only for the INSTALLED version, not the portable.

Funny, I used to be able to run it from a network drive, but now I can't even do that.

I have deleted the GoogleChromePortable folder multiple times, and "installed" fresh
I've tried launching it from the menu, and directly at the EXE in the folder

but it still won't work.

Now, upgrading isn't a possibility - as this machine is old and I don't have a valid license to upgrade - that's why I was so excited to keep using portabble apps on this machine until it dies. I think i have tried it on another XP machine at home but it works?!

any suggestions?

Dropped

Support is fully dropped and Chrome uses compilation options that are incompatible with Windows XP.

Chrome will never again run on Windows XP. All Chrome-based browsers (Iron, Opera, Vivalidi, Chromium, etc) should be following suit once they upgrade to the Chrome 50 codebase.

I talked about it on my own site and shared those posts on PortableApps.com's site and social media a couple times over the last couple months:

You can either upgrade to at least Windows 7 or switch to a browser that will continue supporting your OS like Firefox.

Older version?

Is there a repository for older versions that I might be able to redownload to keep using it - even with the annoying "this will stop working" messages? Beee

I wish I would have seen that pop up in my update manager to let me know, I wouldn't have been so quick to upgrade!

Older Versions, Insecure

Older versions are in the SourceForge repository here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Google%20Chrome%20Po...

Version 49 of Chrome has multiple critical bugs that could allow remote code execution. It should not be used other than on known safe local websites or those within a corporate intranet. It should not be used on any public websites at all.

Thanks John, I don't care

Thanks John, I don't care about vulnerabilities, I'm just using the browser to stream video and make money - on computers that mean nothing and aren't connected to anything! Smile

hmmmm
i tried to download verison 49....but it seems that ALL the downloads on that sourceforge page are 1.4-1.6MB - my assumption is that is just a downloader app? as I tried to install and it said it couldn't download version of chrome (or something like that)
is there anyplace else I can look?
