[Fixed] Stray characters in Backup confirmation dialog and OK button inconsistency

Hi,

I have noticed that when using the conformation dialogue box the all correct button is Ok. Should it not be OK as this is an abbreviation? There were several places where this issue occurred. Any comments anyone?

Also when using the backup facility for a full USB option the completion confirmation message reads has the drive letter plus an extra character "r" no quotes. It happens every time. Could the coding be double checked to see why.

Many thanks,

Clive

Could you please post a screenshot of the dialog with the extra R in it? You can host it on imgur.com or similar and link to it from here.

Actual path

What's the actual path you are backing up to? Or was it right to D:\?

Confirmed. I did a backup to a root directory of a drive and experienced the same.

...backup to a root directory of a drive...

Hi John,
This error "D:/r"still exists in the latest version of the launcher. Was a fixed applied?
Best wishes, Clive.

Not Yet

It's due to a bug within NSIS 2. I'm in the process of upgrading it to NSIS 3 but it requires rewriting the custom form pages.

Switching to OK

As to your other point, I'm switching it to OK for the next release to match the Windows standard ones.

of what?

what is OK an abbreviation of? oll korrect?
.
from wikipedia: Some believe that the Boston newspaper's reference to OK may not be the earliest. Some are attracted to the claim that it is of American-Indian origin. There is an Indian word, okeh, used as an affirmative reply to a question. Mr Read treated such doubting calmly. “Nothing is absolute,” he once wrote, “nothing is forever.”[17]
.
i agree it is important to use the proper syntax, but using OK is not necessary as the word confirm is certainly good enough, or 'yes'
but i am OK with OK, though Ok is definitely incorrect. I would use neither, as OK means Oklahoma, though the consensus is that it means 'OK' or all right, or if you insist. It isn't really a great word for confirmation, just convenient because it is so short.
.
a similar argument could be made against (imo) the word used for posting comments to a forum: submit
.
this is what masters torture their slaves to receive, submission. It should be disused and discouraged.
.
OK or Ok is benign by comparison.

Consistency

It's just for consistency with Windows proper in my mind. And it's an entirely minor change.

Fixed in 24.1

While the OK inconsistency was sorted long ago, I just realized that the confirmation dialog still had issues when backing up to the root of a drive. This is now fixed in Platform 24.1.
