Updates....

Since the new launchers support a simple replacement of files, why not provide an archive that includes the files that need to be replaced? In most cases it tends to be only the executable and perhaps a library or two. This would definitely save bandwidth for both the site and the downloader. Obviously, the full distribution would still be available. Also, adding a link to the latest launcher for each program to its respective download page would be nice too.

Extra Work

It's a lot of extra work to compile additional update files at the moment and won't be happening. The site has downloads from SourceForge, so we don't worry about outgoing bandwidth on those at the moment.

And the only app that is only getting updated launchers is Nvu. All the other apps have full app updates (including the base app). I don't think that 7mb is gonna kill ya. (besides, you don't need to update unless you have Vista)

What about archives with updated files for the apps?

What I just said

All of the apps being released are FULL updates with the exception of Nvu. This means both the launchers and the full apps are being updated. So what would be the point of the archives? If you mean just the files have changed... we don't do that. It's a lot of extra effort for minimal reward. This is why the base app providers themselves (OpenOffice.org, Gaim, AbiWord) don't provide update packages for their regular apps either.

I disagree, especially for large apps like OOo, but I doubt I'd be able to change your mind.

Would you consider placing links to new launchers for Fx and TB as they come out?

It is minimal

Check the updated dates on the files for OO 2.1. Notice that most of them are updated. It's like that with every release of most apps like OO, AbiWord, Gaim (except GTK), etc.

I've been considering making the FF and TB launchers available again independently.
