I am trying to run VLC Media Player Portable 2.2.4 on XP SP3.
I get the initial splash screen when I try to start vlc from the PA start menu but ... I never get the program interface. I do see an entries for vlc.exe and VLCPortable.exe in the Windows Task Manager.
I see in download.com that this version from PA should work on XP. So, I am asking for help here.
Thanks in advance.
Could you try running vlc.exe within the App\vlc folder? It will run in local mode, but you'll be able to see any errors.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Thanks for trying to help me.
Here is what I did
- opened the cmd prompt
- cd'ed to App/vlc
- typed vlc.exe, hit return
- waited, waited, waited
- no window, no error messages, nothing in the event viewer
- checked taskmanager, saw and entry for vlc.exe
Desperate questions:
Do I need to run as admin?
Do I need to run from a particular drive?
I had the non portable version running on my computer before: 2.0.7. Might try 2.3.4
So, I am hoping to get this version running for me.
Could you try a standard copy of VLC downloaded to your machine from here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html
Download the zip package. Unzip. Run vlc.exe.

The standard copy worked. Then I downloaded the 2.2.4 paf.exe from sorceforge. Reinstalled it through the PA console. It ran.
Thanks?
