This should fix all of the memory errors. There maybe a couple of issues with the reading back of values from the INI files into your program, testing would be appreciated.

Google Talk simply doesn't start, no errors, and the process is terminated after a few seconds. Regmon does not detect any writes.
Foxit Reader does write to the ini file, but does not read back from it.
it does seem that there is an issue with the reading back, as for Google Talk I'll look into that.

Google talk also does not create an INI file when "run" (still doesn't start).
I'm having a couple of issues with the reading, if anyone knows any C++/WinAPI programmers who might like to help please pass the along to this thread.

bugmenot, it's getting closer. I have one more version I need to have tested by someone who's using the app in an unusual way. I'm also doing some final testing and rework myself to make sure all of the new features still work the way they used to back when each one of them was added in.
Then I need to come up with a minimal readme since there are so many different ways to use the app, plus there are a few gotchas which need to be noted.
Anyway, here's a bit of an update listing some of the changes:
The app/dll have been renamed to JauntePE (JPE for short.)
The portable registry format has been changed to be .reg file compatible; so it's readable by a .reg viewer.
Lots of little bug fixes and workarounds for the redirecting dll (this has eaten up most of the time.)
Lots of little bug fixes and features added for the supplied, basic launcher.
The command line switchs have also been expanded.
I've added an optional ini which will contain any redirection-related settings, either for common or app-specific use. The ini will allow you to control what portable registry and/or file system a particular app makes use of, and where they will be located (relative to JPE or not.)
A pseudo-"build portable" feature has been added.
Makes an app-specific copy of a small exe version of JPE.
The portable app exe can be optionally stuffed with the original exe and/or any portable ini/reg files. These would then get unstuffed at runtime and deleted afterward.
A "discovery mode" feature has been added.
This allows you to run a non-portable app without registry or file system redirection, but with the redirecting dll "watching" the app to see what it's doing.
After "exercising" the app, an ini is generated containing all of the registry and file system accesses, broken down by access type (create, open, modify, delete, ...).
You then have the option of picking through the registry entries (no file system access "picking" yet) and creating a portable registry file from those selected.
Exclusion lists are now available to stop the redirection of specified registry and/or file system paths, plus any of their child paths.
There's other stuff as well that's still half-baked, like the ability to portablize .msi installs and 16-bit setups that install 32-bit apps, and a rework of the launcher and other main features into plugin dlls. But I've disabled those so that I can get at least one version out to the masses.
That is who Steve is working with however it is still called Lapwing.

I have no idea how to use this! I tried the read me file, but I don't understand it.
So I take it Steve's lapwing project has fallen off the face of the planet?
Is there any reason why he didn't reply to rmcue's questioning of it's impeding release?
