Hi,

Since the update to Portable Firefox 49, it is refusing quite a lot of pages or loading them with a messed up formation with the explanations that their are "insecure".

Local installation working just fine

My local installation works just fine. On the other hand, y uninstalled Portable Firefox 49 from my USB stick altogether, and installed it again but the problem remained.

Problem remains without extensions

By the way, I ran Portable FF 49 in secure mode, and reinstalled it with zero extensions, to no avail.

THis shows the issue

If it is claiming it is insecure click more and it will explain why it says it is so and give you an option to proceed or not.

Also can you give an example site where you are getting such message?

SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER or bad page formation

In some pages, such as forum.eset.com, Portable FF 49 won´t load at all. It claims that the site is incorrectly configured, and will refuse to load at all, "to protect me from steal or robbery". The same happens with tweetdeck.twitter.com

On the other hand, https://twitter.com and https://support.mozilla.org will oad, but without images and the lines and columns all messed up.

49.0.1

I believe this is fixed in 49.0.1, the portable version of which is currently mirroring to the download servers.

49.0.1 not better

I installed the last update 49.0.1, and I'm afraid it didn't help at all. The problem is only with the portable, brand new install. The local FF works just fine in the same PC with Windows 10.

Your PC - Likely Software Firewall

It's something specifically on your PC. Most likely, you have a software firewall interfering with internet access by intercepting SSL traffic to analyze it. The software firewall you have installed probably automatically configured a locally installed Firefox but doesn't work with Firefox Portable.

Firewall

Seems a very likely wexplanation. Tomorrow I'll try it in another computer. Thanks.

Organization

If this is at an organization level (company or university), all the computers might be configured this way.

Windows 10 or Dell XPS firewall, to blame

I am using Portable FF in the university's computer, and the problem vanished. The problem arouse only with my personal Dell XPS runing on Windows 10, and most likely, by a preinstalled firewall in either of them. The question is then: Do you have a brief tutorial here at portableapps.com explaining how to allow portable apps past the firewall?

Not Just a Firewall

It's not Windows 10 itself as I'm running Windows 10 on a Dell XPS 13 without issue. The problem is when you have a software firewall and set it to inspect SSL traffic. It must hook itself into the browser so it can fake SSL certificates to the browser because it will be presenting the browser with invalid ones. Every single one of them is different.

A standard organizational firewall managed centrally doesn't do this and will have no issues with SSL traffic.
