A good basic "Paint" program?...

Hey guys -

I'm looking for a good, small graphics editor (Paint) program - needless to say, one that runs portably - and I was hoping you could help me find one.

I'm not looking for a high-powered app like portable GIMP, just something that does what MS Paint does, w/ maybe a few more features, particularly the capability of zooming OUT a ways (not just IN), which Paint doesn't do.

I have Irfan View, which I do some work with, but cutting and pasting with Irfan is problematic. Whenever I attempt to past into Irfan, it converts itself to a window containing the copied/cut segment (basically, a clipboard view), and the original window disappears.

Yesterday I found an open-source proggy called "MrImage" (which is less than 5 M unpacked) and does what I want it to do, except for one tiny problem: It acts kinda flaky. Sometimes it closes down for no reason, other times it REFUSES to close down when I tell it to, etc. Apparently the development on it has ceased as of sometime in '04, but it appears to be open-source, so perhaps someone esle has improved it? (Or so I hope).

Any ideas, guys?...

Thx

D'oh!...

No worries about the memory, mate.

Unfortunately, though, ya can't consider anything that relies on ".NET" to be all that portable, as it will only run on .NET-enabled PC's (and I don't know of anyone personally that has that on their personal PCs - including me. And I will NEVER change that, as the last thing I - and the world - need is to be even MORE dependent on "Uncle Bill" than we already are...).

PhotoFiltre

Try PhotoFiltre. Mostly for photo's, but you can paint as well. www.photofiltre.com Download the French zip version and then the language you want into the app directory...this avoids the install process.

Otherwise, try Pixia, a real Paint/drawing program (link below). If you want a large choice, go for the following link which has 11 different programs -- including GIMP Portable.

I can also recommend this.

I can also recommend this. Really good and (unlike GIMP) quite small - mine is 2.6 MB with several plugins. It's also (unlike GIMP ;)) rather fast.

I've used this a couple times.
Seems to work ok (I really prefer photo shop for editing, yes its on my thumb drive)

You can use Universal Extractor to extract it to your USB drive.
I don't believe it stores local files but you should check to make sure.
