This particular error happened while updating McAfee Stinger, which makes me particularly suspicious.

Can anyone tell me what this error means exactly. I know what the definition of redirection is but, is this just a badly named error for something else, or is it possible that someone is trying to inject a payload into the exe file during an update?
I've also seen this same error while trying to install a database viewer app a month ago.
Also, I have a known stalker so I check everything now computer wise, and need to do my due diligence prior to writing something off, so please only people know for sure. I can guess and speculate on my own.

If that happens, it's either a SourceForge issue or something with your local software (firewall/antivirus) interfering with Windows downloads. The updater uses the Windows API to handle downloads, it doesn't do it itself. So that error is what Windows passes back to it.

Same issue here, for any software update coming from sourceforge.net.
I suspect the sourceforge's cookie policy, wich shows a warning page before allowing access to their website.
So you get a 302 error when downloading updates via papps updater.
The software updater should have a backup download source, or bypass this warning to proceed to download...
If that were the case, it would impact everyone. It's not, though. SourceForge allows direct downloads using specific URLs for specific user agents (like Wget that the PA.c Updater uses when downloading from SourceForge). This is by design and a long-standing configuration setup on their part. That's why the updater is working for most everyone and I was able to just use it to update Thunderbird Portable without issue.
If you're using something on your end or at your organization's software firewall level that alters the useragent to something else, it will fail, though.

This is what I did to get past the following error with updater
Download error; redirection (302) for file
http://downloads.sourgeforce.net/portableapps/…paf.exe
Go to Windows search box and enter “Internet options” click the result Internet Options control panel
In the dialog that opens click on the Advanced tab
Scroll down the “Settings” list to Security and uncheck the following option
Warn if changing between secure and not secure mode
Thank you for that hint. This helped me fixing the problem.
A nice site effect is that the bugging question of the IE, if I want to switch from an insecure to a secure connection, is gone.
