my version 98 has irreplaceable software on it
any chance of a portable apps for an old version 98?

We have not supported Windows 9x for quite some time. None of our apps support it any longer either. It would be rather difficult and time consuming to determine the last version of each app that still supported Windows 9x and such versions would be insecure so should not be used.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I have also to use w98 for some special tasks and also there I use some old portable apps.
Now it depends what you really want to run.
However many things will no go very smooth as for example some internet apps you would need an update of the root certificates etc. Lot of work with it.
