Java support for multiple versions

Hi,

I've some devices which unfortunately their firmware requires specific versions of Java to access, a cross of v6, 7 and 8

I've installed x3 copies of portableapps in seperate folders, along with portable versions of Java Launcher and Browser Switch.
However, when I access the webpage and it prompts me for Java.. it always launches the OS-installed binary (java 6). I've verified which binary its calling using Process Explorer.

Am I missing something on how to get portable firefox to use the portable java version ?

Do you have the appropriate jPortable installed in each PortableApps instance within CommonFiles?

I think Firefox changed the way it looks for the Java plugin at some point. It's a barely used feature that's being discontinued by both Java itself and Firefox shortly, so we don't test it any longer.

Hi,

Hi,

I do yes.. I see two folders under CommonFiles, Java and Java64

In one instance I did try to browse to the java.exe file under there (from the firefox popup). It starts up a java process, but within a black cmd.exe windows, then nothing happens.

If I used older versions of firefox do you think that might help ?

Some Notes

Just wanted to be clear... you've set Firefox Portable to force 32-bit mode, right? Assuming you're on a 64-bit machine that is. You don't need Java64 as Firefox won't use it. When Firefox is in 64-bit mode, it will only use Flash and ignore all other plugins. 32-bit Firefox will do this in another month as well. At that point only Firefox ESR forced to 32-mode will work with Java. That will continue through Jan 2018.

I do believe that each version of Firefox has "lockouts" forcing it not to use Java below a specific version. So it would ignore older versions. That could be what you're seeing.

Also note that the jPortable Launcher is only used to launch local .jar apps and doesn't have anything to do with Firefox using Java, so you can remove that.
