Updater refuses to close

Hi!
I'm having a weird issue with the updater... it started doing this about a week ago and it's starting to annoy me.

The problem is evident when I try and close the portableapps launcher. I get the "

The following app is still running:
PortableApps.com Updater
Please close all portable apps and try again.

but when I get this message, the updater is no longer visible and has done its job. But when I check the task manager, it's still running in the processes.

I tried killing it but Windows refuses to do so because it's a part of the launcher (I guess). So I have to kill the launcher in order to get rid of the updater so I can unmount my key...

I tried updating the launcher menu but it didn't help.
Anybody has a clue?

Quick start and close + automatically check

If you have the platform set to automatically check for updates, it does so when you start the platform. This process happens in the background without any window appearing. It will take about as long to check for an update as when you manually start the updater. After it checks it will either close if there are no updates or show the update window. If you close the platform while this background check is occurring, it will alert you that it is still running. Is that what's happening?

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Well, not really.

Well, not really.
I start the launcher. It in turn loads the updater, like usual. But then, if I want to eject the key or just close the launcher, it simply refuses. The shortest amount of time I left it running was maybe 5 minutes. The longest, a few hours... but I still get the same result. I have a hard time believing that it will take that long to find the updates!
Before dinner, I tried ejecting the drive, had the same problem. I tried killing the launcher, this time it worked but when I look at the task manager, I still have the updater running and when I try to kill this process I get an access denied warning. I tried looking at the file location and the properties, but since the file has been removed (I pulled the drive), it just refuses to show me anything.

This is the first time I encounter something like that.

OK, I finally managed to fix

OK, I finally managed to fix it.
I deleted the portableapps.com folder in the apps directory leaving everything else there and deleted the start app in the root folder. Then I reinstalled the platform. All the other programs linked back up and now it works like new.

I really don't know what happened but at least it now works.
