QupZilla 2.x has been problematic. A new version 2.1.0/2.1.1 was just released. You can get the zipped semi-portable version here:
http://www.qupzilla.com/download#windows
I'm wondering if some Windows 7 and Vista users can try it out. It's working for my on Windows 8 and Windows 10, but on Windows 7 it forces Windows to the Basic theme (Aero disabled) and then crashes on launch in my virtual machine.
Note: Like most zipped semi-portable apps, this package doesn't include all the necessary runtimes and will fail to run if it's not installed. If you don't already have the necessary Visual C 2015 runtime, you will need to install it: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145
We're still awaiting testers to see if QupZilla 2.1.0 is working properly under Windows Vista and 7. If you have access to a physical machine with either operating system installed, please test and report your findings. Thanks.

My system is Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. When I run the portable version available from the link you provided, I get the following error message. "The program can't start because api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

Works on my Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.
Unlike our packages, this zip doesn't include the necessary Visual C runtimes. Please install this on your PC:

Sorry, I didn't see that in your original post. With the runtimes installed, it runs without a hitch.

Does Windows 7 stay with Aero enabled or does it switch to Windows Basic while QupZilla is running?

Doesn't change Windows Theme for me.
What I would like even more than QupZilla is CLIQZ as a portable app.
https://cliqz.com/en/
Any chance to get this built?
Certainly light and modern browser is needed in the PortableApps suite.
Something not from the big 3.
What have CLIQZ or any "lightwight" browser to do with this topic? There are enough threads for your input so please use these.
CLIQZ is no more lightweight or modern than Firefox. It uses the exact same engine and the exact same system resources. Just as Midori is no more lightweight than Chrome (same WebKit/Bline engine, same RAM use, same install size, same CPU use). Please don't hijack this thread, I already responded to you here: https://portableapps.com/node/31548#comment-231208
