Housekeeping in Chrome Portable

I am very fond of portable apps because it limits potential messes with my windows registry -I suppose the reason why many of us use portable apps! I've been using Chrome Portable (64bits) for ages, I have several profiles in my portable installation each with different plugins which I use for different purposes (work, leisure, etc)

I have two questions:

1.) I would like to make sure there is no malware/other unwanted data in my Chrome storage/data folders that might be slowing down and/or provoking strange behaviors in my Chrome. I've heard of the Chrome Cleanup Tool... but it doesn't work on Chrome Portable, is there any way to sort this out? is this the tool I should be using in the first place, or is there a better one? For info: I don't have any symptom of a potential malware, it's simply a maintenance measure.

2.) The File System, Local Storage and Session Storage folders of my portable profiles keep getting bigger and bigger over time (+300Mb) Should I be concerned? Is there a way to "clean" (aka reduce the size) of these folders WITHOUT loosing my current configuration (=passwords, history, etc)?? I have the plugin Click&Clean which I use from time to time, but the folders do not get really reduced much in size.

Thanks

Chrome Profile size

Unfortunately, the Chrome profile continues growing without stopping as you use it whether local or portable. My local Chrome data is at 976MB (400Mb of that is cache). This is due to the fact that history is never automatically dropped. Unfortunately, the only options for clearing are based on the current time (last week, etc) or everything. It would be great if you could have it set to only remember, say, the last X months and delete older than that so it would never get out of hand. Firefox suffers from the same issue but appears to store things a bit more efficiently. My Firefox profile is smaller even though I use Firefox as my main browser and Chrome only for a few specific things.

Wow, fast answer, thanks John.

I could live with that option if nothing better is available... how do I "clear based on the current time"? What will I be clearing exactly? I don't get what you mean.

Clearing

If you go into Settings and click Show Advanced Settings, you'll see a new Privacy section. If you click Clear browsing data... within that, you'll see check boxes for what you want to clear (Browsing history, Download history, cookies, cache, etc) as well as a drop down to select the timeframe. The options allow you to delete everything within the past hour, day, week, or month as well as delete all. It would be great if we could also delete everything, say, older than 3 months. Then we could shrink or history quite a bit while still keeping the most useful stuff recently that we may hit again. Unfortunately, neither Chrome nor Firefox let you do this out of the box though there might be extensions that let you do this.

I can understand the poor

I can understand the poor control implemented for the cache, but why aren't previous versions deleted?

I have to continuously go into 'App/Chrome-bin' to delete the previous installations. One time before I'd realised, this folder was over 1.5GB on it's own!!! There were around 8-10 previous versions of GoogleChrome installed including the current one, at that time. This is the only app that does it. But I have noticed other Chrome based apps doing the same, Why? Surely the launchers should be deleting these files on installing the new versions?

Live for an ideal and leave no place in the mind for anything else.
